It was during the dim sum weekend breakfast at Royal Gourmet Premiere Hotel last week, that I've had the chance to try out their mooncakes as well. This was in conjunction with the upcoming mid-autumn festival. It's the third year running that Premiere Hotel came up with their special 'home made' mooncakes, improving from year to year, with four flavours to choose from.

Arriving at the hotel on a Sunday morning, the mooncakes were during our dim sum meal. What hit me first when I saw the mooncakes being brought out were the irregular shapes. It fascinated me that each of the mooncakes sold by Premiere Hotel were hand made, hence the non-uniform shapes. I did like the human touch being put into producing each and every piece of these sweet delicacies.

The mooncakes did go well with the accompanying tea and dim sum spread. As usual, I went for the traditional Lotus Paste Mooncake first, and was pretty satisfied with the smoothness and sweetness of the mooncake. Of course, you can opt for the Sugar Free White Lotus Paste mooncakes if you feel the regular ones are a too sweet. The Snow Skin Pandan Lotus surprised me with its very thin skin, unlike others which I have tried recently.

My ears picked up the words 'durian' and 'mooncake' almost immediately the moment they were mention, with my anticipation running high when the Snow Skin Durian Mooncake was served. It was a bit unfortunate that the ones we had wasn't thawed longer, and tasted akin to durian ice cream. We let it warm to room temperature and it tasted a lot better. It's good to note here that Premiere Hotel used fresh D24 durians pulp, and not some durian flavouring. Good stuff, though I've had better ones recently.
