The latest and very popular chinese dim sum restaurant is now open and ready for brisk business. Tim Ho Wan from Hong Kong. They have opened up at The Boulevard Midvalley City last week to droves of customers daily. I had the privilege to try out their famous dim sums a day before the official opening, and my, it was good. Check out below on what I've sampled that day.

A shot taken off their official Facebook Page |
Located at the side of The Gardens,
Tim Ho Wan actually took over the space that used to be Blu Med. Spanning 2 storey high, there were ample space for everyone. However these few weeks have been packed and saw long queues outside due to folks wanting to try out the famous Michelin star dim sum restaurant.

Baked Bun with BBQ Pork - RM10.80 |
Tim Ho Wan's signature Baked Bun with BBQ Pork is a must try dish. Served hot and fresh from the oven, the baked bun literally crumbled to the touch, being very soft and savoury inside from the yummy bbq pork meat. Great stuff here, more to come.

Steamed Egg Cake - RM7.80 |
|
Spring Roll with Egg White - RM7.80 |
|
Beancurd Skin Roll with Shrimp - RM10.80 |
Now I'm a fan of fried goodies from dim sum restaurants, hence the 3 dishes above went very well with my palette. I was told to truly enjoy authentic high grade dim sum, one must not use any sauce or dippings other than the ones which come together with the dish. The Spring Roll with Egg White and Beancurd Skin Roll with Shrimp were deep fried to a crisp, yet maintaining the soft ingredients inside.

Pan Fried Carrot Cake - RM9.80 |
Part of Tim Ho Wan's Big 4 Heavenly Kings menu includes the above Pan Fried Carrot Cake. The other three are the Baked Bun with BBQ Pork, Steamed Egg Cake, and the uniquely delicious Vermicelli Roll with Pig's Liver.
|
Pork Dumpling with Shrimp - RM10.80 |
|
Dumpling Teochew Style - RM7.80 |
|
Prawn Dumpling - RM11.80 |
Up next were the delectable dumplings, a staple in any dim sum restaurant let alone the very famous Tim Ho Wan. We had three different varieties in the form of their Prawn Dumplings, Pork Dumpling with Shrimp and the Teochew Style dumplings. All were steamed fresh and taken out to serve piping hot. Be careful not to burn your tongue though, but once they cool to a manageable level, these dumplings tasted really good.

Vermicelli Roll with BBQ Pork - RM12.80 |
|
Vermicelli Roll with Shrimp - RM12.80 |
|
Vermicelli Roll with Pig's Liver - RM10.80 |
I usually refer them as 'Hongkong Chee Cheong Fun', but hey, the official name is Vermicelli Roll. We were treated to three different varieties, all with different fillings from BBQ Pork, Shrimps to the very unique tasting Pig's Liver. I'm no stranger to Pig's liver, loving it in my usual 'Koay Teow Th'ng', but the ones here were a tad different. The liver did not have that rough texture, and slid almost smoothly down the throat. I guess they must have used a higher grade one, or probably a more refined method of preparation was done.

Beef Ball with Beancurd Skin - RM7.80 |
|
Glutinous Rice with Lotus Leaf - RM12.80 |
Even the seemingly mundane Glutinous Rice with Lotus Leaf shown above had a very fragrant and nice texture to it. Taken with the Beef Ball with Beancurd Skin, these two were a fitting pair complementing each other's taste to tantalise your taste buds. We ended our very filling dim sum meal with some desserts from Tim Ho Wan.
|
Mango Sago Pomelo - RM8.80 |
|
Tonic Medlar & Osmanthus Cake - RM6.80 |
I couldn't get enough of the Mango Sago Pomelo even though I had one full cup of it. The sweetness of the mango added with the texture of sago and pomelo filled my mouth with sweet delight in every spoonful of the dessert. I do love their desserts, which includes the very healthy and flowery tasting Tonic Medlar & Osmanthus Cake. Do drop by Tim Ho Wan at The Boulevard, Mid Valley soon and try out their dishes!
