The Roewe 550 PHEV is this months addition/discovery

Revolution Edition

We all now how it's hard to get accurate data from the Chinese EV market, but after some digging, there's now data that cover about all of the plug-ins sold there in 2014.

Sales more than tripled regarding 2013, with the EV Share jumping from 0,08% to a respectable 0,25%, being by far the market with the largest volume increase YoY in the world, with this in mind we can say that 2014 was China's Plug-In Year One.

Year Two will probably see it get closer (And even surpass sometimes) to the largest plug-in market, the USA.

Based on certified data and past performances, there's a lot of newcomers, beginning with the new leader, the BYD Qin, recovering for the brand the Best Seller Model trophy, which had won only once, way back in 2009 with the F3 DM...

Another addition to the 2014 ranking is the #2 Kandi EV, a model that has been frequently in the news, while in the Third Spot we have the Two Times Sales Champion (2012 & 2013) Chery QQ3 EV, which has ended its brilliant career this year, all-in-all, some 19.000 units were made, making it the most common plug-in vehicle on this market. Next is their nemesis, the #4 Zotye E20 is looking to win city-car loving consumers over Chery.

The BAIC E150 / E200 EV is one of the few cars to repeat a Top 5 presence in China, repeating its #5 position from 2013, this year it had a restyling, new name and also new ambitions, with sales going through the roof in the last months of the year (It was the Best-Seller in December, with 2.615 units!).

The only foreigner present here in the Tesla Model S, landing in #6, with still small numbers, the american brand is looking for 2015 to see its sales grow significantly.

In #7 we have the current veteran (Present since 2010) of the ranking, the BYD e6, a funny thing about this car is that while it never even reached #2 at home, it is by far the most common chinese plug-in car export.

The more middle-class-sized Kandi EV brother Geely-Kandi Panda EV ends the year in #8, while in #9 we have a new car, the Roewe 550 PHEV is a competitor for the BYD Qin, it uses the sames recepie (Plug-In Hybrid VW Jetta-sized sedan), but with more modest results.

The veteran JAC iev is suffering with the new competition, selling half of what it had last year, diving at the same time from #5 to #10, the Venucia e30 / Morning Wind / chinese Nissan Leaf starts its first real sales year in #11, while the Chery eQ, successor to the multi-prized QQ3 EV, debuts in #12, but looking to climb several positions in 2015, after all, it has some big shoes to fill...

Next there are three cars with small expression (And ambitions), the #13 Zotye T200 EV, #14 Chery Riich M1 EV and #15 Roewe E50, but in #16 lands the media-friendly BYD Denza EV, much is expected from this car, let's see if 2015 sees it fulfill those high expectations.

By brands, BYD (31%) removed Chery from #1, recovering a title that already had two times (2009 and 2011),
Kandi ended in #2, with 19%, while Chery dropped to #3, with only 15% Share.

Last year i had made a forecast for China that now can be seen as conservative (25K), with that in mind, looking ahead i would go with 120.000 units for 2015. Ambitious? Yes. But let's wait and see...
