How To Unlock All 'Crossy Road' Mystery Characters - iOS / Android Tips

The popular iOS and Android game Crossy Road by HIPSTER WHALE, where you try and get your character as far cross a never ending series of roads, has a few mystery characters that you might of noticed. These characters are shaded in black with three questions marks (???) hiding their names. These characters can not be won through the mystery prize boxes, or bought with real money, but they can be unlocked.

Here are the secrets to unlocking all the mystery characters in Crossy Road. 

Cai Shen (Chinese New Year Character):
Play as Fortune Chicken or the other Chinese New Year character Xi, and collect 21 red envelopes. Envelopes can be obtained over multiple game sessions.

Crab: 
Swipe sideways at least 49 times and get a score of at least 40.

Drop Bear:
Play as a Australian character, find the tree with the Drop Bear sitting on top, and approach Drop Bear. The Bear will jump on you, ending the game.

Hipster Whale:
When you see the Hipster Whale swimming by in the river, jump on its back.

Gifty:
Playing as the Festive Chicken, find and approach the large Christmas tree.

Andy Sum:
Play as Mallard and get a high score or close to your current high score.

Matt Hall:
Playing as the Lucky Cat, get a high score or close to your current high score.

Ben Weatherall:
Playing as the Dark Lord, get a high score or close to your current high score.
