One of the new features in the latest updates of iOS 8.3 and OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 is new Emojis and a redesigned keyboard. There are over 300 new Emojis including skin tones!
The new Emoji update includes some diversity with different skin tones for certain emojis - all the way from white, brown to Simpsons' character.
To switch to different skin tones on iOS, tap and hold an emoji, then slide your finger to the skin tone you want to select.
On a Mac (access the keyboard by pressing; Control+Command+Space) to switch skin tones - the first time you click on an emoji with different color options all varieties will show - simply choose the one you want to use. To then change the same emoji again to a different skin tone, click and hold the emoji. The options will appear - choose the one you want to use.
There is also a new redesigned Emoji keyboard on iOS. With the new keyboard you can now scroll though all the different categories, or tap the icon of the category you want to go directly to. Disappointed that there is still no search bar for emojis and they don't show up as suggestions when you're typing, either.
Note: there is a big issue with these new emojis. If you send one of the new emojis to someone who hasn't updated their software - the emoji won't appear and instead will just show as a box. If you send an emoji with a new skin tone, the old version will show. So it's important that everyone updates their software! Or, no-one update their software! ...No, it's probably better that everyone updates.
