iBook Author is an awesome free app that allows users to easily create stunning multi-touch textbooks for iPad. It provides all the tools one might need to start creating and publishing ebooks including galleries, video, interactive diagrams, 3D objects, and many more.

iBook Author  provides you with a set of pre-defined templates to help you design the background of your textbook. You can choose from a wide variety of styles, like classic textbook, or photo book in both landscape and portrait orientations. You can also choose from a variety of page layouts in each template, or even create one of your own.

For those of you interested in using iBooks Author with students to create multi-touch books, iBooks Author Starter Kit is definitely a must have. This is free eBook is available for download with iBooks on your Mac or iPad, and with iTunes on your computer. This book, which we have learned through a tweet by Sean Junkins, is “ a beginners guide to creating Multi-Touch books for teaching and learning. It walks a user through a set of step-by-step activities, and provides all of the materials — an iBooks Author template, color palette, copy decks, images, videos, keynote presentation, and more — needed to create an interactive book titled “The World of Living Gardens”.”
