I was at 3M Malaysia's 1st Drinking Water Week launch (3M Malaysia Cleaner, Clearer and Better Tasting Water - Malaysia Drinking Water Week) the other day, where I learnt up so much about how their water filters work and how it helps in blocking and filtering off sediments, rust, chlorine, contaminants and water-borne bacteria. Even before my new home finished renovations I've already decided to get their water filters installed.

Getting the new home ready for move-in conditions took a lot of effort, especially on the close follow ups during renovations. One of my priorities were to have a safe and comfortable environment for the family and kids. Clean water tops my list of important factors to ensure a healthy home. While on my search for my water filtration system, I wanted a brand that was reliable, with sufficient experience in the water filtration business. Many names came across my checklist, but I already had my eyes on the very sleek and modern looking 3M filters that has over 75 years of experience in filtration technology. Of course, looks doesn't matter if the product does not work as promised. I had to find out if it has global certification. 

3M Purification Inc. for example manufacture products whose claims pass the rigorous testing standards of one of the most respected names in the industry, NSF. NSF is a non-profit, non-governmental organization focused on public health and safety. NSF certification provides assurance to those who manufacture, sell and use products through its independent review and testing. They undergo toxicological reviews, performance testing and manufacturing facility inspections before certification is granted. NSF certification is a critical catalyst to 3M.

Even though the water that reaches my pipes have already been treated by the Ministry of Healthy from their treatment plants, I'm still concerned of the quality of water that reaches my home. So many factors can cause contamination, from aging pipes, rust, sand and more. Hence, I decided to get myself an outdoor filter to help filter sendiments and bacteria that can be found in water the moment it reaches my home. Most importantly, I wanted an outdoor filtration system that can filter out sediments and that dreaded chlorine taste and odour.

A good outdoor water filter is great, but how about the indoor one which I initially wanted to get? Drinking water systems or water filtration systems are often made available in a variety of series and are dedicated to different functions. They range from great entry level systems for better tasting water to something that provides great filtration with a high flow rate for all your cooking and drinking needs, and even industry leading filtration capabilities for cleaner water. I wanted water which is save for the kids, and even myself, enabling me to literally drink off the tap in the kitchen after the double filtration.

One of the main reasons I went for 3M's water filters were the fact that they are literally low-maintenance. They have a Sanitary Quick Change (SQC) which allows filter change to be much easier, quicker, and cleaner. All it takes is only 10 seconds ! SQC systems have a special head system which simplifies the cartridge change-out, to a simple twist out of the old and twist in of the new. No tools needed, only my clumsy hands. I don't have to call them to send in their techs for future filter cartridge changes.

My last consideration before I actually went ahead to go for the 3M Malaysia Water Filter Installation (AP902 Outdoor & DWS2500T-CN Indoor) were the costs involved. There are a whole range of filtration systems beginning from entry levels which can still provide you with cleaner drinking water. For example, to invest in an entry-level 3M drinking water system, you'll need to spend about 26 cents per litre in the first year alone. After which, every litre will only cost 7 cents!

I must say, I did learn a lot about how water is so important to us from the 3M Malaysia Drinking Water Week, and how the lack of it will adversely impact our well-being.
