Bio Oil's Be Skin Confident Workshop

An afternoon with Bio-Oil, one event which I missed due to some other work commitments. I'm sharing out what transpired at Roost Cafe the other day where Bio-Oil hosted a beauty and confidence workshop. Now I'm a big believer of Bio-Oil as it helped lots with Janice's stretch marks after the birth of Baby Martin and Karlson, hence I make it an effort to share this post event release.

Skin’s Role in Confidence

Life is easier to traverse when you genuinely feel confident. Self-confidence is a feeling of being comfortable in your own skin, an understanding and acceptance of your strengths and weaknesses, and embracing your uniqueness. And the skin being our largest organ, plays a paramount role towards our self-image and self-confidence.

Many of us will have scars or stretch marks that have developed over the course of time from cuts, acne, post-operation, burns, pregnancy, or rapid weight gain/loss. These skin imperfections can have a profound effect on us, particularly if they are highly visible. It can hamper your self-image, leading to a lack of self-confidence, a feeling of anxiety and a constant urge to hide these imperfections on your body, which can affect an individual’s life.

Welcoming the guests was Product Manager, Stephanie Ng, who made a presentation introducing Bio-Oil’s multi-purpose properties, and why the product has won 224 awards globally since its launch in 2002.

Stephanie’s crowd-participative presentation shared that on average, a person will have three scars on their bodies. Hence, this is a common occurrence. It is estimated that, of all new scars formed, most can be attributed to everyday cuts, grazes and minor burns (up to 34%). Studies have also shown that 65% of women are conscious of their scars, compared to 35% of men.

Stretch marks are another common body issue faced by most women. In a confidence survey of 7,000 women, stretch marks rank as number 8 in the top 10 body concerns. In another survey of 3,000 people, 75-90% of women are prone to stretch marks. Stretch marks can be unsightly, and may cause us to feel conscious in front of our partners and society in general. Because of this, confidence can plummet, and this is where Bio-Oil can help alleviate your concerns.

Also speaking about its unique formulation, Stephanie shared that Bio-Oil contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin Oil which ensures that the active ingredients are rapidly absorbed into the skin, without leaving an oily residue. The formulation also includes vitamins A & E, and natural plant oils – Lavender, Calendula, Rosemary and Chamomile.

How Can Bio-Oil Help

Besides treating a number of skin conditions such as dehydrated, ageing skin and uneven skin tone, Bio-Oil is the number 1 selling scar and stretch mark product in 18 countries (including Malaysia) among the 91 countries in which it is currently available.

Applying a topical product such as Bio-Oil on scars can help reduce its appearance and colour, thereby reducing the need to cover up. According to a recent clinical study conducted on Bio-Oil, 92% of subjects showed an improvement in the appearance of their scars after 8 weeks.

Bio-Oil can also help reduce the possibility of stretch marks forming during pregnancy, teenage growth spurts and periods of rapid weight gain, as well as help improve the appearance of existing stretch marks. A clinical study revealed that 100% of subjects showed an improvement in the appearance of existing stretch marks after applying Bio-Oil for 8 weeks.

Sharing and Tips

Not surprising, many of the attendees themselves were Bio-Oil users, having tried and tested it with rave reviews of their own. Beauty blogger Illy Ariffin shared how she used Bio-Oil to treat stretch marks on her body, and how the results made her feel confident to blog about it and recommend the product to her readers. Writer Marissa Hakim on the other hand, experienced skin imperfections when she was a teenager and active in gymnastics. Besides using Bio-Oil, she attributes her confidence in overcoming the imperfections to her loving mother. Blogger Corrine also shared her own unique way of using Bio-Oil, as she uses it for dry and ageing skin, and even uses it with her moisturiser before applying makeup to get a better ‘glow’.

Finally, it was time for a special session with R. Yogash, a renowned stylist, makeup artist and talent coach for the Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation, who was there to offer some tips and advice on being confident. Speaking about achieving both beauty and confidence, Yogash shared that confidence comes from many aspects of our lives: by putting in a little effort to dress up and by taking care of our skin, we are able to achieve outer confidence; and by being comfortable with ourselves, we are able to cultivate inner confidence. From our posture, skincare, fashion sense and even the power of a handshake, Yogash kept the guests entranced throughout his talk.

The workshop was rounded out with a quick photo session. Guests took to the photo booth to snap pictures of themselves while declaring “I’m skin confident!”. The room was transformed with the circulation of positive vibes, and a newfound sense of confidence. The hashtags #biooilmy and #beskinconfident came to life on social media as bloggers, writers and attendees continued sharing on what it means to Be Skin Confident.
