The educational potential of Lego has exponentially grown over the last few years raising the Lego status to the top ranks in educational gaming industry. In a previous post we shared here last year, we talked about about 7 important skills kids develop from engaging with Lego games. Here is a quick overview of these skills:
- Lego provides tools that develop lateral thinking in a fun environment
- It teaches kids to think in three dimensions
- It improves literacy as kids work with instructions
- It develops problem-solving, organization, and planning by construction
- It improves creativity
- It enhances communication and critical thinking
- It boosts kids motor development.
In today’s post we are sharing with you some great apps that kids can use to play Lego games on the go. All of these apps are free and work perfectly on iPad or any other iOS operated device.
‘Help your child bring their LEGO characters to life with the LEGO Movie Maker App. This fun, kid-friendly app brings the whole family together to create a custom LEGO stop-motion movie. Simple tools and guides make it easy to shoot, edit, and even score your movie with music. Add one of the customizable title cards then share it online and, who knows, you may have the next summer blockbuster in your hands…literally!’
‘With LEGO® Friends Story Maker, creative storytellers (kids ages 6+) can write, create, publish and share their own beautiful multimedia stories. Easy tools like drag & drop, stickers, voice recording, text, emoticons, and backgrounds make every story come alive!’
3- Instructions for LEGO - Learn how to build new creations with your old LEGO bricks
‘“Instructions for LEGO®” is a fan-built application for those who are fond of creating new things with their Lego bricks. It’s the only app in the Store which presents building instructions in large step-by-step pictures to show parents and kids how to build these items.’
‘Bundled together in one app you can be the hero. Explore the secrets of the ocean in your Deep Sea Sub. Catch the escaped crooks in action-packed car chases, on foot in the park, or by boat in the swamp. Put out the fires in the city or steer the Coast Guard helicopter to rescue shipwrecked from the sharks. You can even be the fastest in the city by speeding across the finish line first in the motorbike racing game’
‘Cruising for coins will unlock virtual LEGO® sets that can be built with a few easy touches - and which will become part of the game’s colorful 3D scenery for your child’s next drive-through. Create & Cruise provides plenty of inspiration for real-life LEGO® builds and imaginative play scenarios you can talk to your child about - like why the pretty princess is driving a police car that has legs instead of wheels. ’
‘For hundreds of years Yoda™ has trained the Jedi Knights™ of the future, but never for something like this. The Dark Side is preparing a weapon more powerful than any Jedi™ has ever faced before. Play now to take control of the galaxy! Build, create and control your favorite characters and vehicles to smash your enemy, solve puzzles and complete challenges within the LEGO® Star Wars™ universe.’
