So there I was at the press conference for the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Comedy Festival 2015, together with Harith Iskandar, introducing to us the first ever international comedy festival in Malaysia. The Kuala Lumpur International Comedy Festival (KLICFest) is set to become Asia’s BIGGEST annual comedy event. Over eight consecutive days this coming September, over 60 of the world’s funniest comedians from 14 different countries take to five stages across Kuala Lumpur to entertain an audience of more than 20,000 people.

Comedy Festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe, Montreal’s ‘Just For Laughs’ and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival have long been a staple of must-go-to comedy events around the world but there has never been one to feed the growing appetite of comedy in Asia … until now!

Press conference to give the media a taste of what's to come |
The Festival program - curated by Festival Directors Dr Jezamine Lim and the acknowledged ‘Godfather’ of Stand Up Comedy in Malaysia, Harith Iskander - features performances from not only the biggest acts from Malaysia and the region (Singapore, Korea, Indonesia, India, Hong Kong, Philippines) but also the best international stars and the most promising emerging talent.

A truly ‘complete’ comedy festival it will feature everything from stand up comedy in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia, Tagalog and Cantonese to sketch comedy, satire comedy, improv comedy, musical, comedy magic, open mic competitions and kids comedy.
These shows will be staged and staggered simultaneously at four key comedy venues all located in and around Kuala Lumpur – three of them within shouting distance of each other and one more only a 5 min drive away – thus making it easy for comedy fans to catch more than one show a night.
Remember to catch it this coming 16th to 23rd September 2015 |
On Sunday the 20th of September 2015, one of the main highlights worth mentioning will be an all-star performance of the LAUGH MALAYSIA Gala Night at the 3000 seater Plenary Hall, KL Convention Center. This will feature a ‘Best Of’ line up of comedians who are performing at the KLICFest.

As the inaugural event, the KLICFest falls under the wider umbrella of DiverseCity 2015 - the Kuala Lumpur International Arts Festival – a month long festival of Arts from around the region and one of the largest cultural events in Malaysia. The KLICFest is set to become one of Kuala Lumpur’s fastest growing cultural events and in future years aims to offer a bigger, better or more diverse program to satisfy Malaysia’s increasingly mature desire for comedy.
Come one, come all! |
