Cafe 9 - A Taste Of Thai @ Section 17 Petaling Jaya

Just last week or so, I felt like having some Thai food, and it was good timing too that I dropped by Cafe 9 "A Taste Of Thai" at Section 17 Petaling Jaya. Serving some rather nice Thai cuisine, I was intrigued by their name, which got me thinking it's a cafe of sorts.

Stepping inside Cafe 9, I immediately felt the warmth and comfort from the decor. Mind you, they are not a cafe, but a full fledge restaurant serving some delectable Thai cuisine. Their interior fuses contemporary Asian with minimalistic design cues. It's brightly lit, with lots of sunshine coming in from the glass walls surrounding the restaurant.

We kicked off our meal with appetisers in the form of Cafe 9's House Special Prawn Cake. It's made fresh from their kitchen with a blend of fresh prawns which are marinated and deep fried to perfection. No overnight dishes are kept, to retain it's freshness. The outer layer is coated with crunchy bread crumbs for that extra crisp when chomping down. Not bad at all, although I though it could be better if its softer.

Sinful Fried Chicken Salad
Sinful Fried Chicken Salad

When a salad is given the name Sinful Fried Chicken Salad, one has to wonder why the 'sinful' name. It looked more like a chicken dish than salad, although inside we did have lots of lime, chilli, onion, coriander, mint leaves and also crushed peanuts to give that explosion of flavours in our mouth. In Thai, this is called "Larb Gai Tod" and happens to be Cafe 9's newest dish in their menu. Love the crispy chicken bites.

Tom Yum Soup - Regular (RM25.90), Large (RM45.90)
Tom Yum Soup - Regular (RM25.90), Large (RM45.90)

A must-try dish in any Thai restaurant would be their tom yum soup. Here at Cafe 9 they serve two types of tom yum, where you can either order the red or clear soup. We were recommended the red soup because it has more oomph and full flavour as compared to the clear soup which is sour and spicy instead. The soup is really quite nice, just the way I expect it to be, authentic and spicy. It comes in two sizes, regular for 2-4pax sharing and the large is always for bigger families and groups up to 8pax.

Panaeng Curry Chicken
Panaeng Curry Chicken

A rather thick curry, the Panaeng Curry Chicken has curry that is 100% imported from Thailand. Thick and flavourful, I really like this dish has a lot of 'lemak' to it. It is also a spicy dish, so be wary, if you cannot take too much heat. Choose between having chicken or beef as its ingredient. Good stuff here.

Mango Fish
Mango Fish

A special creation by the chef, on the menu is this delectable salad and fish 2-in-1 combo. the Mango Fish. The fish absorbs the salad sauce from the mango salad, giving it a sour and spicy taste in the fish meat. I could actually call this a salad appetiser dish had the fish not being so big.

Stir fried 4 angled beans

I know this dish as the 'kacang botol' dish. Here they named it the Stir Fried 4 Angled Beans, which looks so simple yet tastes exceptionally good. Stir fried with belacan sauce and onion, this dish isn't too spicy. Crunchy and tasty, another must-try vegetable dish at Cafe 9.

Red Ruby dessert

We ended our meal at Cafe 9 - A Taste Of Thai with some sweet dessert in the form of their Red Rubies. Not a bad place for a taste of everything Thai. Nearly all their dishes on the menu is spicy to a certain extent, so be sure to prepare your tastebuds for the fiery feeling the next time you are here.
