How to downgrade from iOS 9 back to iOS 8.4.1

Yesterday Apple released iOS 9 the newest major update which comes with number of improvements and features for all iOS devices. If you upgraded your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to iOS 9.0 accidentally, then the good news is that you can downgrade your device to iOS 8.4.1 as Apple seems to be still signing the iOS 8.4.1 firmware file.

Please note that you can’t downgrade to iOS 8.4, which can be jailbroken using TaiG jailbreak as Apple has stopped signing iOS 8.4.1. So downgrading may not be very useful if you were planning to do it to jailbreak your device.

NOTES: 

  • You will only be able to downgrade back to iOS 8.4.1 which is not jailbroken yet but maybe in near future. 
  • You'll be able to downgrade back to iOS 8.4.1 as long as Apple continues to sign iOS 8.4.1 firmware file.
  • Make sure to backup your device via iCloud or iTunes just in case anything gone wrong. 
Check real-time signing status by going to this website. If there is a green tick that's mean that Apple is still signing this firmware file.

Method 1:
This method is recommended, but it is more time-consuming as it involves restoring data from backup.
  • You now need to put your device in DFU mode
  • Plug your device into your computer.
  • Turn off the device by holding the Sleep/Wake or Power button and swiping it off.
  • Hold the power button for 3 seconds.
  • Begin holding the Home button without releasing the Sleep/Power button for 10 seconds.
  • Release the power button and continue holding the home button until you get a popup from iTunes that it has detected that your device is in Recovery mode.
  • Click on the Ok button.
  • Now click on Restore iPhone,iPad or iPod Touch button.
  • Then click on the Restore and Update

Method 2: 

This method is much faster, and a method we’ve used successfully several times, but it would be important to highlight that it is not the recommended method.
  • First of all make sure to turn off Find My iPhone and Passcodes.
  • Download the iOS 8.4.1 firmware file for your device. The iOS 8.4 firmware file for iPhone 6 Plus, model number A1524 (which can be found at the back of your device) is iPhone7,1_8.4.1_12H321_Restore.ipsw. Accordingly, download the appropriate firmware file from our iOS firmware file download page for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Download Links: 

  • Connect the device running iOS 9.0 to your computer.
  • Launch iTunes and select the iOS device from the top left corner.
  • Hold the Alt/Option key on the Mac or Shift Key in Windows on your keyboard and click on the Check for Update option, instead of restoring.
  • Select the ipsw file you had downloaded earlier.
  • iTunes will inform that it will update your iOS device to iOS 8.4.1 and will verify the update with Apple.
  • Click Update.
