Learn how to root Moto X Play Android smartphones and also how to install TWRP recovery on it.
Assuming you already purchased your Moto X Play android device, the first thing that should clock your mind as a geek, is rooting your device, and installation of TWRP recovery follows.
This practice is very important because they help render administrative options to you, as a user, and also helps in terms of flashing of custom roms and also retaining backup via recovery. Rooting your device also have other benefits, like, running of special apps, to free up memory and many other benefits.
In this guide, I would walk you through the process on how to root and install twrp recovery on Moto X Play android.
1. Firstly, download ABD/fastboot driver and setup on your computer.
2. After that, you’ve to unlock the bootloader of your Moto X Play. Check this guide on how to unlock the bootloader of Moto X Play device.
3. Enable USB Debugging mode from the smartphone. To Enable USB debugging mode on Moto X Play, simply go to settings >> developers option and enable from there. If the developers option isn’t visible, then go to about phone (under settings menu) and locate build number, and tap on it several times, till it notifies that you’re now a developer. This would enable developer’s option. After that, connect your Moto X Play to your computer via USB cable.
4. Now, download the TWRP recovery file from here, and save on your desktop.
5. After that, rename the Moto X Play TWRP Recovery.img to recovery.img and move to the ADB folder created in the 1st step.
6. After that, download SuperSU package from here, and move the zip file to your phone.
7. Once you’re done, boot your device to fastboot mode. Simply Press and hold Power and Volume down together for like 3secs, then free the buttons.
8. Now, open the ADB folder that you saved the recovery.img, and open command prompt windows by holding shift, then right click on an empty space in the ABD folder, just as seen in the image below.
9. Once the command prompt windows opens, input the below command and click enter to flash the TWRP recovery.
10. Now that you’ve flashed TWRP recovery on your device, then boot to recovery menu so that you can easily flash the SuperSU file – in other to root your device. Simply input the below command to boot device to recovery mode.
11. Once your device is boot to recovery mode, then tap install button, and flash the SuperSU downloaded in step 6.
That's it. Your Moto X Play would be rooted with TWRP recovery installed in it.
