Finally, CM 12.1 official version is now released for Xiaomi Mi4 and Mi 3 users, and the ROM is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with extra features, better performance, high customization and improved design.
In this guide, I would walk you guys through an easy process on how to quickly install CyanogenMod 12.1 on Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi 3.
Before you proceed, I advise you take make a full file backup of your Xiaomi device, to avoid lose of files and data during the process. And make sure that you’re taking this action on Xiaomi Mi4 and Mi3 device, any smartphone outside it can lead to brick.
2. After that, download CM 12.1 ROM for Mi3 and Mi4 from here, and move the downloaded file to the desktop menu of your computer. Also download Gapps from here, and save on your desktop.
3. Now, move the downloaded files, that is, the CM 12.1 ROM file and the Google apps (Gapps) files to the memory of your device.
4. After that, boot your device to recovery mode. To boot, simply go to Tools >> Updater >> then tap the menu key and select “Reboot to recovery”.
5. Once you get to recovery menu, simply wipe cache by selecting “Wipe” from recovery menu, then go to Advance >> Select Wipe data and cache.
6. After that, go back to recovery menu, and then select install, locate the CM 12.1 ROM file and flash (Install).
7. Perform the step 6 above to flash the Gapps file.
8. Now, move back to recovery menu, and reboot your device.
