How to Root Moto G 2014 (2nd Gen) and Install TWRP Recovery

Below details a quick guide on how to install TWRP recovery on Moto G 2014 and rooting follows.

To start with, it’s best you installed TWRP recovery on Moto G 2014, in other to flash custom roms through recovery mode and other flash-able files.


Before you get started, make sure that you’ve enabled USB debugging on your Moto G 2014 device. To enable, simply go to settings, developers option and enable from there. If developers option isn’t visible on your device, then go to About phone under settings and scroll down to Build number >> tap up to 7 times, and it would make the developers option visible. How to Install TWRP Recovery on Moto G 2014

1.       Firstly, download ADB and Fastboot file from here, and extract the folder to your desktop screen of your computer.

2.       After that, download TWRP recovery file from here, and move the .img file to the ABD and fastboot folder.

3.       Power off your device and boot to fastboot/bootloader mode. To boot, simply press and hold power button + volume up together for 5-6 seconds.

4.       Now, at the blank space of the folder, press shift + right click and select “Open command prompt windows”.

5.       Once the command windows is launched, then input the below commands

adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.5.0-titan.img

6.       Remember to press Enter on your keyboard for each command issued. And that’s it. TWRP Recovery is installed on your device.

Now that you’ve installed TWRP recovery on Moto G 2014, rooting would be easy.

How to Root Moto G 2014

1.       Firstly, download SuperSU from here.

2.       After that, transfer the downloaded file to your device internal memory.

3.       Now, that you’ve TWRP Recovery installed on your device, simply boot your device to recovery mode (press and hold Volume Down button + press Power button).

4.        Once you get to the recovery mode, simply perform a full system wipe (Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache Partition and then Wipe Dalvik Cache/ART cache from advanced section).

5.        After that, go to the recover main menu, then select install, then select the SuperSU Zip file and install immediately.

6.        Once the installation process is completed, simply go back main recovery menu and tap on Reboot system, and your device would be rebooted.

That’s it. SuperSU is installed on your Moto G 2014, which makes it rooted. You can make use of root checker to verify if it’s rooted.
