PLOY Japanese Thai Fusion Restaurant @ WORK Clearwater Damansara Heights

It has been a while since my last gastronomic indulgence over at PLOY Japanese Thai Fusion Restaurant @ WORK Clearwater Damansara Heights. This time around, they have revamped most of their dishes, with really scrumptious new offerings to be ingested. Check out what we had that wonderful afternoon at PLOY.

Aptly named PLOY which literally means "gem" in Thai, this gem of a restaurant located in Damansara Heights at the modern and sleek office building Clearwater. Ploy @ Clearwater serves cuisine inspired by the Japanese and Chinese culture.

Sliced Cucumber - RM8.50

Thai Spice & Miso-Butter Fresh Corn Wedges - RM10.50
Thai Spice & Miso-Butter Fresh Corn Wedges - RM10.50

From PLOY's Side and Nibbles come these rather interesting appetizers in the form of the Sliced Cucumber and Thai Spice & Miso-Butter Fresh Corn Wedges. The chef really spruced up the normal looking cucumber and corn, giving it that extra edge and taste. The Sliced Cucumber is matched with some very fragrant sesame oil and savoury umami flavouring. As for the corn wedges, it's a combination of  Thai Spice and Miso-Butter spread on top.

Chicken Curry Popcorn - RM8.50
Chicken Curry Popcorn - RM8.50

A novelty, but one which I did not quite enjoy, probably due to the less intense flavours. We had these cool Chicken Curry Popcorn in a small paper bag served on a plate. Now when I hear of chicken curry, i expected a burst of intense curry flavour, which this bite sized dish didn't quite offer.

Sambal Miso Edamame - RM10.50
Sambal Miso Edamame - RM10.50

Even the usual edamame bites is supercharged with sambal miso. The Sambal Miso edamame is first steamed before being grilled to dry them out, finally being tossed with home made sambal paste before serving. The sambal miso made all the difference to an already finger licking good appetizer.

Tender Honey Pepper Wings - RM14
Tender Honey Pepper Wings - RM14

Chicken wings with a twist, doused in honey-based soy sauce with sesame seed, it is very well marinated. I was told the chicken wings were soaked in homemade broth for a full day for the flavour to seep deep inside. This tender honey pepper wings, really good stuff.

Seared Wagyu - RM46
Seared Wagyu - RM46

Did someone mention wagyu? My weakness, beautiful sweet tasting seared wagyu was served that evening.  Lightly seared to perfection, it was indeed juicy and tender, with awesome seasoning of orange ponzu, chili miso and chopped crispy garlic. As with any other dishes from PLOY, they add some unique flavours to the usual fare.

Spicy Cold Tofu Blocks - RM10.50
Spicy Cold Tofu Blocks - RM10.50

A rather healthy dish, we had these spicy cold tofu blocks which came served with Thai XO sauce, ginger and almonds. For such a healthy dish, tofu for that matter, I was surprised with how appetizing it tasted in my mouth.

Tofu Agedashi - RM11.50
Tofu Agedashi - RM11.50

Another variation of the tofu dish, we tried PLOY's Tofu Agedashi which came in sweet and spicy broth. Coated in flour, it has that distinctive crispy outer layer which went well with the broth of dashi, mirin, shoyu, togarashi, topped with scallion and turnip.

Stir Fried Lemongrass Beef - RM46
Stir Fried Lemongrass Beef - RM46

Up next, the mains. PLOY's Stir Fried Lemongrass beef is one tasty dish, pan-fried with Japanese Shishito Pepper, Thai herb oil and tamarind sauce. There's a zest to it, I love this dish. Meat lovers will relish in the generous amounts of beefy goodness in this dish.

Flaming Red Fish Curry - RM42
Flaming Red Fish Curry - RM42

Why flaming? The Flaming Red Fish Curry is served in a spectacular fashion where the waiter actually heated up some Scotch whiskey in a glass before pouring it on the dish, setting it alight. You literally see blue flames shooting up. This round the waiter did not flame the dish long enough, resulting in an alcohol taste that was too overpowering for us to savour this dish nicely.

Tuna Ceviche - RM35
Tuna Ceviche - RM35

Those who fancy raw food should try their Tuna Ceviche, served with lime, shallots and cube turnip on a coconut shell. I'm not a big fan of raw food, but did taste a couple of those small cubes, and i echoed the sentiments of my fellow foodies that it would have tasted better if chilled colder.

Unagi Meshi - RM49.50
Unagi Meshi - RM49.50

Those looking for a more filling bite should go for the Unagi Meshi. Thick cuttings of Unagi is served atop a medley of Japanese steamed rice mixed with sauteed fresh shiitake mushroom seasoned with charcoal essence. Not bad at all.

"Fun Guy" Spaghetti - RM31
"Fun Guy" Spaghetti - RM31

With a name that goes by "Fun Guy" Spaghetti, this dish consist of a bowl of delightful al dente spaghetti sautéed with a blend of fragrant shiitake umami bits and olive oil along with heaps of oyster and button mushrooms. Perfect for those who love their dish packed with mushroom flavours.

Chicken tantanmen - RM35

Curry Udon - RM31
Curry Udon - RM31

Noodles were served too, each with a unique taste of its own. We had the Chicken Tantanmen which is served with tan-tan men (lai meen) with thick chicken broth seasoned with spicy miso, sesame oil, and tobanjan. Found inside were minced chicken, bok choy and eggs. Another noodle dish which we tried was their Curry Udon, featuring udon in Japanese curry. Delicious to the last drop of soup.

Palate Melting Creation - Cracked Coconut - RM21
Palate Melting Creation - Cracked Coconut - RM21

We ended the meal with one of the best looking dessert I've had in a while. We were presented with Cracked Coconut dessert, a chilled treat of coconut sorbet with white chocolate shells and mixed fruits. It was artistically presented, everything from the 'sand' to the sea shells, and even the coconut husk is edible, made from chocolates.
