Samsung wants to make its smartphones more secure. In future security updates for Android will even come to Galaxy S6 and Co. in the month. First details about its update plans, the manufacturer has now announced.
Just ten weeks ago that its customers Samsung made a big promise: In the future, smart phones are branded every month to be supplied with new updates to the Android operating system. Now the manufacturer seems to do really serious. Now on a Sunday newly launched website first details about the update plans are revealed.
For now, only profit flagship models
With the software updates Samsung wants to close especially vulnerabilities in Android and in his own TouchWiz user interface. However, the Koreans, the update is not yet guaranteed for all smartphones and tablets. First, why should first benefit from the procedure, only the current flagship models. To start these are the following devices:
Galaxy S5
Galaxy S6
Galaxy S6 Edge
Galaxy S6 Edge +
Galaxy Note 4
Galaxy Note 5
Galaxy Note Edge
Galaxy Tab S
Galaxy Tab S2
Also LG and Sony want to update regularly
Background of the new upgrade policy is the Stagefright vulnerability in Android which has been known since the beginning of August. It allows potential attackers to gain access to Android smartphones via sending media files. Although Stagefright was already stuffed on many smartphones, this appeared in early October in a different form on again. Apart from Samsung, therefore, other manufacturers like LG and Sony have announced that they will publish regular updates for their Android-security smartphones in the future.
Other manufacturers such as HTC keep it, however unrealistic, every month to be able to provide a new update. The main reason is the dependence of the manufacturer of the mobile operators. Often, the network operator shall make their own changes to the Android operating system, so that can be provided by the manufacturer software updates transferred to the corresponding device is not so simple.
