Reinventing Productivity with Surface Pro 4 – More Powerful, Quieter and Efficient Than Ever Before

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 November 2015 — Microsoft Malaysia today announced the general availability of Surface Pro 4 throughout Malaysia. At only 8.4 mm thin, the Surface Pro 4 comes with the latest operating system from Microsoft – Windows 10 Pro – together with 6th Generation Intel® Core™ m, Core™ i5, and Core™ i7 processors, enabling everyone from students to professionals to get more done on the go. It is not only 30 percent more powerful than Surface Pro 3 but is also quieter, runs cooler and is more efficient with up to nine hours of battery life.

Housed in a sleek and sturdy magnesium case, the Surface Pro 4 features all the ports that make the Surface lineup unique, including a USB 3.0, microSD card reader and Mini Display Port. It also features a stunning, yet sensitive 12.3-inch PixelSense display with a 3:2 aspect ratio for comfortable viewing and note-taking.

New Surface accessories, such as the new and improved Surface Pro 4 Type Cover take Surface Pro 4 from tablet to laptop in an instant, and features a redesigned mechanical keyboard with optimal key spacing for fast and fluid typing. The redesigned Surface Pen lets you write, draw and mark documents with precision ink on one end and an eraser on the other.

K Raman, Managing Director of Microsoft Malaysia reiterated the company’s vision and the value proposition of the Surface Pro 4, “We have received remarkable success since the launch of the Surface Pro 3 last year, and continuously drove ourselves to create the most productive devices on the planet.

We didn’t sit on our laurels, and today, I’m proud to say that the Surface Pro 4 packs more power in a slimmer, lighter form factor. The Surface Pro 4 is perfect for people who place a premium on portability, yet require more productivity and performance out of their devices.”

And this is certainly the case with Malaysian graffiti artist, Muhammad Fakhrul Akmal (also known as Mile09) and gifted savant artist Delwin Cheah, who use the Surface Pro 4 to conceptualize and design their artwork. This dynamic duo, with their very distinct styles of art, displayed their work at the media event today.

Akmal’s creation featured a 112 square feet graffiti mural portraying a perfect blend of traditional and modern aspects of Malaysia, which included the iconic KLCC Twin Tower, as well as more indigenous art forms like the Wau Bulan and Wayang Kulit. “I wanted to highlight Malaysia from past to present. The Surface Pro 4 allowed me to do just that and the experience was exhilarating. The Surface pen and screen works precisely and as natural as a regular pen and paper. Once I’ve completed my sketch, it was easy for me to then visualize my artwork on a larger canvas. I also don’t have to worry about losing my artwork or damaging them as I now save them on OneDrive (Microsoft’s cloud storage system), and am able to retrieve and refer to them whenever I want,” said Akmal.

Delwin, the child prodigy known for his meticulous detail towards nature and animal sketches, exhibited five art pieces created entirely on the Surface Pro 4. The drawings included sketches of Malaysian tigers, safaris and Galapagos Island. “I like to draw on the Surface Pro 4 because it is fun and easy to use!” chirped the bubbly 12-year old.

Elaborating on his behalf, his father, Lawrence Cheah said, “Delwin’s fascination with nature started when he was very young. He was able to articulate his interest via art, which he sketched on regular pen and paper. Because the Surface Pro 4 is just like sketching on a pen and paper, Delwin quickly adapted and has since created a number of sketches on the Surface device without any issues. What impressed us the most was that the Surface Pro 4 wasn’t just a drawing tool but an all-in-one device which allowed Delwin to focus on his art, learn and play all at once.”

Speaking at the launch, Michal Golebiewski, Chief Marketing and Operations Officer, Microsoft Malaysia said that the Surface Pro 4 was the perfect device for millennials in Malaysia. “We are seeing an increasing number of young consumers who love to use Surface devices - Akmal and Delwin are two prime examples. In fact, 98 percent of Surface Pro 3 users would recommend a Surface device to friends and family. These young people demand ultra-portability and power at the same time, and we’ve given them what they desire through the Surface category.”

A recent Asia-Pacific survey conducted by Microsoft with 1,200 Asian youths under the age of 25 in 14 countries including Australia, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Korea showed that 15 percent of Asian millennials already have a 2-in-1 device, while 42 percent wished to get a new 2-in-1, tablet or laptop device during the holiday season.

Golebiewski elaborates, “Surface Pro 4 arrives as consumers – particularly the millennials – are increasingly looking to refresh their technology as they look for simpler devices that bring the best of mobility and productivity. In fact, 59 percent say they want to have touch screens on all their devices and 41 percent want a digital pen to write on their devices. The Surface Pro 4 is the perfect 2-in-1 device to meet their needs.”
