ISHIN Japanese Dining @ Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur

Now it was my first time dining at ISHIN Japanese Dining @ Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur after hearing about it from word of mouth for the longest time. Located along Old Klang Road, inside a standalone double-storey bungalow, ISHIN has been amongst the top fine dining Japanese restaurants since 2009. They serve genuine Japanese and Kaiseki style cuisine, so do check out what we had that evening.

Arriving at the very cozy looking dining space inside ISHIN, I really liked the atmosphere, warm and rather Japanese-like. They offer free valet service, so no more worrying about parking. Sashimi and sushis are prepared at the centre for diners.

Ishin's oval sushi counter is also one of Malaysia's biggest counters that gives you first-hand experience to witness the chefs' meal preparations and it also encourages face-to-face interaction with the chefs. Private rooms and Tatami seating are also available giving you flexibility to host private events and corporate functions in a comfortable setting where free valet services are also extended to dinner guests as an added convenience.

Tara Shirako (Cod Milt) Ponzu - RM28
Tara Shirako (Cod Milt) Ponzu - RM28

Now I've tried this before, but the soup version. This time at ISHIN, we had the Tara Shirako (Cod Milt) Ponzu. What is it? Well, in a nutshell it is the sperm sac of Cod fish cooked with citrus sauce. This is the rather raw version, and tastes like cream cheese. I'm not a big fan of it though, but hey, from what I gathers, it's in season now.

Shiro Baigai (Japanese Ivory Shell) - RM35 per 3 pieces

It's a seafood type of night, where I would rather prefer it to be a meat night though. Anyway up next we had the Shiro Baigai (Japanese Ivory Shell). Escargots never looked nor tasted better, prepared the Japanese way. There's even a small wooden 'pick' for you to dig the meat out from the shell to savour it.

Sashimi

A full sashimi set came next. Consisting of Sashimi- Hotate (scallop), Kampachi, Botan Ebi, Akagai (siham), Shake Belly (salmon belly), Shima Aji, Sanmo, and Tuna, sashimi lovers will go crazy over the choices. Served on a bed of ice, everything is freshly cut, and tastes pretty awesome. I couldn't get enough of it, having sashimi at ISHIN is a must-do.

The Pan fried Ankimo (monkfish liver) (鮟肝) is a Japanese dish made with monkfish liver and considered as one of the delicacies of Japan. It is listed at number 32 on World's 50 most delicious foods compiled by CNN Go in 2011. I did try a few bites, but could not quite get the taste in. Definately an acquired taste, do try it if you are into something different from your usual Japanese fare.

Another two dishes worth a mention here, served at ISHIN, would be the grilled salmon and Braised Lamb. The grilled salmon is grilled to perfection, without being over-cooked, with some sweet sauce on it. Love the braised lamb though, which had a slight tinge of lamb aftertaste, but otherwise it was done really nicely, tender and soft.

Fancy some luxurious indulgence? Then go for ISHIN's Hokkaido King Crab Shabu Shabu. The king crab had really huge meaty claws, perfect for those looking to indulge in boiled shabu shabu. A short explanation is in order, Hokkaido is a popular place for tourist and king crab is one of the their famous local delicacy.

Thumbs up for the Hokkaido King Crab, love it!

Fortunately, you do not need to spend a fortune to fly to Hokkaido and taste their delicious crab, you may enjoy this fascinating crab at Ishin now. At RM288 per portion, I do feel it's rather appropriately priced considering the generous amount of fresh, sweet tasting, thick and fleshy meat you'll get to enjoy.

Musk Melon
Musk Melon

For dessert, we had the sweetest musk melon that I've tried. Great ending to a good night out with cod sperms, raw fish, salmons, lamb, and huge king crabs. If you haven't tried them out yet, you must. Head on to ISHIN Japanese Dining @ Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur the next time you're in the mood for some of the finest Japanese cuisines available.
