Released Updates for OS X and iOS

Tech company Apple has just released OS X update 10.11.2 for El Capitan and iOS 9.2, both of which contain multiple bug fixes and improvements.

The OS X 10.11.2 update can be downloaded via the Software Update functionality built into the Mac App Store.

According to Apple, the update contains the following fixes:

• Improves Wi-Fi reliability
• Improves the reliability of Handoff and AirDrop
• Fixes an issue that may cause Bluetooth devices to disconnect
• Fixes an issue that prevented Mail from deleting messages in an offline Exchange account
• Fixes an issue that prevented importing photos from an iPhone to a Mac using a USB cable
• Improves iCloud Photo Sharing for Live Photos

El Capitan has only been out for a couple of months, and this is Apple's second attempt at trying to ease the teething troubles that users have been experiencing. Based on my testing of the beta, this update does bring much needed stability to what has been quite a rocky release. Wi-Fi has been so buggy that I've yet to roll out El Capitan to my main work Macs, although now 10.11.2 is out, that will likely change.

iOS 9.2 is also out, making it Apple's fourth update to iOS 9 since its release. Among the myriad bug fixes and security patches, this update also changes the way the Safari View Controller works with third-party apps. This will, for example, allow for password apps to integrate directly with the browser.

Also in iOS 9.2 is the following:

• Apple Music improvements for making playlists and saving songs offline
• New Top Stories section in News
• Improvements in Mail Drop in Mail for sending large attachments

iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch owners can update over-the-air (around 250MB) or via iTunes (a much larger download).
