After one year, smartphones are already old? A six year old HTC HD2 shows now what ancient technique is still able to afford. An enterprising developer has managed to bring Android 6.0 marshmallow on the smartphone from 2009 up and running - although not full-featured.

The HTC HD2 began his story modestly in 2009 as a simple 4.3-inch smartphone with Windows Phone 6.5 operating system. Only over the years it became the secret star in the developer community. Because the now six year old HTC model proved to be amazingly friendly developer. Even modern operating systems are relatively easy to install on the HD2. In addition to Windows Phone 8, and Firefox OS smartphone veteran has seen in recent years already Android 2.1, Android Jelly Bean, KitKat Android and Android Lollipop. But as impressive journey does not stop: now also runs Android 6.0 marshmallow on the HTC HD2.

The operating system is still very buggy and provides by far not all of the functions. But available are the screen, WiFi and audio reports Android Authority. Impressive is especially against the background that the HTC HD2 has a clocked at 1GHz single-core processor. This is supported by 448 MB of RAM.

The smartphone came in November 2009 as the first Windows Mobile Phone with capacitive touchscreen and multitouch support on the market. The display measures 4.3 inches diagonally and dissolves with 800 x 480 pixels. For developers seems therefore the motto to confirm: Whichever new operating system comes out, the HTC HD2 is running with it. It will be exciting to see if that is still valid when Android 7.0 will appear.
