6 Trends from New York Fashion Week Spring 2016

Over the past few years, the trends seen during New York Fashion Week have taken us on a fashion-forward journey. From intricate details, to elegant basics, to flowing lines, to overpowering ruffles, and even color-clashing prints, NYFW always manages to kick off styles that will flourish for seasons to come. Before the 8-day Fashion Week mayhem departs New York and heads to London, many fashion industry mavens are taking note of the common trends seen amongst the hundreds of glamorous runway shows that took place on the New York catwalks. If you’re finding it difficult to keep up with the countless trends that graced the runway this past week, then check out below for a recap of what to expect trend-wise for the upcoming season. That way when you hear like-minded fashionistas discussing the odd, yet trendy facial accessories that adorned the Givenchy collection, you can insert yourself into the conversation and say, “I know what you’re talking about!”

Crochets:

Who says you can’t wear beach attire in the fall? Top designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Custo Barcelona, and BCBG Max Azria incorporated beach-inspired crochets with fall trends to create gorgeous handmade-looking pieces.

Hippie Chic:

The 70′s trend is here to stay. Many designers at NYFW incorporated hippie-like styles into their collections witthout going overboard. Dion Lee, Christian Siriano, Prabal Gurung, and Ohne Titel all used hints of suede, bold prints, chunky layers, and flared pants to create modern 70s-inspired ensembles to kick off the fall season of fashion.

Fringe:
Bits and pieces of fringe have scattered runways for the past couple of years, but the NYFW designers cranked up the heat to create a bohemian overload of fringe. Normally, fringe is used to add a hint of texture to looks that are in need of a little excitement, but that wasn’t the case this year. Instead, designers used the technique to make statements, create movement, and incorporate a ‘Boho’ vibe into a seemingly elegant collection.

Print Blocking:
Are you afraid to take a style risk and mix prints? Well, this NYFW trend says the more the merrier! Diane Von Furstenberg, Tommy Hilfiger, BCBG Max Azria, and Victoria Beckham’s collections were filled with bold fabrics that took the ‘clash’ out of color-clashing.

Face Accessories:
Fashion Week has had some out-of-the-box accessories, but these exaggerated facial decorations have to be a first. When it comes to accessories, designers typically enhance their designs by styling the models with tulle hoods, sheer masks, or hanging hairpieces, but many NYFW designers like Givenchy, Katya Leonovich, and Dion Lee made huge statements on the runway with large, eye-catching facial accessories.

Bare Shoulders:
Many designers bared it all for the NYFW runway — well, sort of. Many models showed off their structured shoulders with ensembles that cut down enough to expose their collarbone, yet covered up in other areas to create elegant and business-appropriate looks. Designers like Givenchy, Tome, Lacoste, Prabal Gurung, and Victoria Beckham all had pieces sprinkled throughout their collections that showcased the bare shoulder trend.
