EV Sales in Canada ended on a positive note, with more than 700 registered in December, doubling numbers regarding Dec. '14, with the accumulated sales reaching 6.700 units, up only 35% regarding last year due to the sales drought of the Volt for a big part of the year.
The EV Share ended the year on a record 0,35%, a positive departure from the 0,27% of 2014.
The top three all had positive results, with the Chevrolet Volt (220 units) performing its best result since April '14 and looking to regain the Best Seller status in 2016, lost this year to the Tesla Model S (Up 157% regarding 2014), the first time a model other than the Volt won this title in The Modern Era (The previous non-Volt winner had been the Mitsu I-Miev, back in 2010).
Looking at the BEV / PHEV breakdown, pure electrics continue to improve their performance, they now have 67% of the market, a 9% improvement over the 58% of 2014 and a stark contrast to the 30% held in 2012...

Tesla vs The Others (Canada Edition)
As Elon Musk pointed out, the real competition of Tesla aren't other EV's, but the ICE best selling models, so let's look how the Model S stands in Canada (1):Pl | Model | 2015 |
1 | Mercedes CLS / E-Class | 3.162 |
2 | Tesla Model S | 2.010 |
3 | BMW 5-Series | 1.996 |
4 | Audi A6 | 990 |
5 | Cadillac CTS | 921 |
Looking at the whole 2015 numbers, Tesla is edging closer to the leadership, with Mercedes needing the CLS and E-Class to be together in order to distance itself from the Model S, so the leadership for the Californian is something that could reach in the near future.
(1) - Unlike in markets across the pond, the full-size car market in Canada is much more diversified, with Chevy Impalas, Malibus, Chrysler 300, Dodge Chargers, etc, all theoretical adversaries to the Model S, but Tesla's direct competition isn't there, so the Model S is only compared with cars with similar price and concept.
