If the latest speculation of the iPhone 7 is true, the bigger 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus could arrive in two variants. Ming-Chi Kui, the Apple analyst from KGI suggests that the iPhone 7 Plus will come in two variants. One will sport a single iSight camera, while the second variant will have dual rear camera setup. However, the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will come the usual iSight rear-facing shooter.
In a note released to Apple investors, Kuo adds that the iPhone 7 Plus variants will utilise camera technology by LinX imaging, an Israel based company, that specializes in making multi-aperture camera equipment for mobile products. It's worth mentioning that Apple acquired LinX imaging in April 2015.
The dual rear camera setup on iPhone 7 Plus could include two 12-megapixel camera sensors, one with OIS and a wider field of view, like the regular sensor on smartphones, while the other with 2x or 3x zoom lens. The hardware is expected to come from the company's long time supplier of cameras - Sony.
The dual-camera technology is said to enable some kind of special camera feature, like switching between sensors based on environments, better depth and color sensing, image stitching for high-resolution images, variable focus and bokeh effects.
Kuo also notes that the iPhone 7 Plus dual-rear camera model will be in short supply early on, and will account for 25 to 35 percent of total iPhone 7 Plus sales this year. If it launches, we can expect it to be the expensive iPhone 7 model ever.
