Rumor: iPad Air 3 will come with 4K display, 4GB RAM and improved battery life

Apple is widely expected to announce a third-generation iPad Air at a March event in a few weeks time and the latest supply chain chatter has it that the device will come outfitted with an ultra sharp display boasting a 4K resolution, or nearly four times the pixels of Apple’s current-generation 9.7-inch 2,048-by-1,536 pixel Retina display.

According to a new report from DigiTimes the iPad Air 3 will come with a 4K resolution display while still retaining its 9.7-inch display. Additionally, it will also come with up to 4GB RAM and improved battery life. Sadly, due to supply constraints, the iPad Air 3 will not come with 3D Touch.

If the iPad Air 3 ends up coming with a 4K display, it is likely that it will be powered by Apple’s beastly A9X chipset that is also found inside the iPad Pro.

This is not the first time that we are hearing rumors about Apple launching the iPad Air 3 in March. The company has usually launched a new iPad towards the end of every year, but last year, it decided against launching an upgraded version of the iPad Air 2. Instead, the company launched the 12.9-inch iPad Pro that is aimed at artists and enterprise market. If rumors are to be believed, Apple will now launch the iPad Air 3 alongside some new watch bands for the Apple Watch at an event in March.

“Apple believes that despite a decline in the tablet market and increased competition globally, it still has a base of dedicated customers who are looking to upgrade their iPads,” reads the report.
