Malpe beach in Udupi district, which is one of the main tourist attraction in Southern Karnataka has become the first beach in India to get WiFi connectivity. Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj launched the 24x7 Wi-Fi connectivity at Malpe beach
The facility will be available to visitors free of cost for 30 minutes any time 24x7. The duration for free WiFi access would be extended later. The free WiFi service is being provided by BSNL, in association with MsQuadgen Wireless Solutions, supported by the Centre's Digital Drive Initiative of facilitating high speed internet facility across the country.
Recently Google and Indian Railways' arm RailTel announced the availability of free high-speed WiFi service at Mumbai Central station. Google said that it is planning to expand the free public WiFi network to 100 railway station in India by the end of the year and eventually expand to 400 railway stations in next few years. After Mumbai Central, Google’s Wi-Fi service will be rolling out at railway stations of Allahabad, Jaipur, Patna and Ranchi.
