The Xiaomi Mi 5 is one of the most anticipated smartphone we have been hearing a number of rumors of it for quite sometime now. Earlier this month Xiaomi Co-Founder and Senior VP Laiwan Jiang revealed that the Mi 5 will launch after Chinese Spring Festival, without giving out a specific date.
Now Liwan Jiang has announced on his official Weibo account that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be announced at the company's Spring Conference in Beijing on February 24. He also shared that more info about the event will be made public on January 26.
"February, 2016 millet new spring conference, that is, we look forward to the # 5 # millet, particularly ticket sales and the rules, the next Tuesday!" reads Liwan Jiang's post on Weibo.
As for the specification, according to rumor mill, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will arrive in two models. The standard model will sport 5.1-inch 1080p display, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, while the premium model will sport 5.1-inch 2K display, 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. This will be the only differentiating factor for the two models, while rest of the specs will remain same.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 will sport a physical home button, which also doubles as a fingerprint scanner and will sport a dual 2.5D arc glass with metal strap round the edges, which is similar to Samsung Galaxy flagship devices. The rear camera will have 16-megapixel sensor, while the front facing camera is 8-megapixel. Other rumored features include USB Type-C, dual SIM, 4G LTE & VOLTE and MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and 3600mAh battery with fast charge support.
Xiaomi has always priced its mobile products aggressively, be it in the mid-range segment or high-end segment, so we can expect a similar strategy this time as well.
