Alcatel OneTouch Idol 4S’s retail box doubles as a VR headset

A new trend is being picked up by smartphone vendors, bundling VR headsets with their devices. Lenovo did it with K4 Note, while domestic vendor iBerry also did the same with it Auxus Stunner. Joining the league is Alcatel OneTouch, who will take a similar approach and offer VR viewer along with its upcoming Idol 4S smartphone.

Alcatel OneTouch will not provide a seperate VR headset, instead it will make use of the retail box which would ship with its upcoming OneTouch Idol 4S. The box is made out of plastic and can double up as VR viewer when correctly folded.

The retail box will ship with two eyepieces, a slot where the smartphone will sit, and a button to tap on the screen. The VR setup will be very similar to Cardboard like VR viewers from OnePlus and Google, but, Alcatel OneTouch will have one advantage over these, that is being made of plastic which is more durable.

The Alcatel One Touch Idol 4S will sport 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 AMOLED display and equipped with octa-core Snapdragon 652 SoC, 3GB RAM, 16GB expandable storage, 16MP rear camera (can be launched with dedicated 'Boom Key') and 8MP front facing camera. Alacatel One Touch is also expected to announce the Idol 4, that will have 5.2-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 617 SoC, 2GB/3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage,13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera and 2160mAh battery. The Idol 4s will go on sale in May and is expected to be priced $400, while the Idol 4 will be available in March, and will be priced around $250.
