Google has detailed its upcoming major update to the Android Wear platform. The new update - Android Wear OS v1.4 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow (API level 23) will be rolling out to all Android Wear watches over the next few weeks
The latest update will bring new gestures, audio support on speaker-equipped watches, expanded support for messaging clients, battery life improvements and adds new languages namely Mandarin, Cantonese, Indonesian, Polish, Dutch, and Thai.
Now you can connect your Android Wear smartwatches to your smartphone via Bluetooth to make and receive calls without using the smartphone. However, for this the smartwatch should be equipped with a speaker. Currently the Huawei Watch and Asus ZenWatch 2 (49mm) come with speakers. You will also be able to listen to audio/video messages with apps like Glide.
Until now, you could simply flick your wrist to scroll up and down in the smartwatch's card stream. Now, you will be able to expand a card, bring up apps, or return home to watch face with a push, lift or shake gestures on your smartwatch. The latest update will also let you use your voice to send messages from apps like Google, Hangouts, Nextplus, Telegram, Viber, WeChat and WhatsApp.
