Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5 naturally come with Android 6 to market. An important feature is however missing. It is the ability to add microSD card to the internal memory of the smartphone. What does that mean exactly?
Samsung Galaxy S7 and the LG G5 will be among the first flagship smartphones, which therefore come from the factory with Android 6 marshmallow. This means buyers of course some advantages, since they automatically benefit from numerous new software features, such as the extended rights management or Google Now on Tap. A very handy feature of Android 6 will not support both smart phones as ArsTechnica writes.
Memory expansion yes, but not fusing
But it shall not be possible with Galaxy S7, S7 Galaxy Edge and LG G5, add microSD card to the internal memory of smartphones - a feature that is at least theoretically with Android 6 now possible. Of course, both the Galaxy S7 and the LG G5 have a slot for microSD cards. This also works as it previously know smartphone users from any device. If one SD card into the smartphone, allows data to be outsource as photos, music, videos and partly apps on this.
Partitions of smartphone and SD card remain separate
However, Android 6 provides another option. Thus it is possible with the new operating system, with the internal memory of the device to melt the memory of microSD card to a partition. The SD card is formatted by the phone and can - be used with this device - until a new formatting. The manual retrieval of data deleted by this step. Rather Android decides after this step yourself how and where specific data is stored. So in itself it is a convenient feature that also is the bargain optional. While offering a smartphone with Android 6 to after inserting the microSD card to format it and add to the internal memory. Who does not want to, the card can also just as with smartphones use an older version of Android as usual as a separate space.
Samsung does not want to confuse users
In a statement over ArsTechnica Samsung announced consciously renounce the Galaxy S7 to the new option to add a microSD card to the internal memory of the smartphone. So Samsung's claims to assume that users like to use the SD card to move data between the phone and PC. However, this is only possible as long as the card has not been formatted by the smartphone. Moreover, the risk that the user Fomatieren their SD cards lose the date data stored there.Samsung would therefore prevent the new feature of confusion among users and has therefore disabled by default in Galaxy S7 and S7 Galaxy Edge. Whether LG has similar motives for the deactivation of the new features, is still unclear. In all probability, however, is likely to be driven by the same considerations also Samsung competitor.
