Apple has updated the iOS installation stats on its website, which reflect that the growth of the latest version of its mobile operating system has stalled at 77 percent. The data updated by Apple earlier this month on February 8 had also indicated that iOS 9 was running on 77 percent of active iOS devices.
iOS 8 continues to comprise seventeen percent of devices while older editions of iOS accounted for six percent of devices—again, same as two weeks ago.
The numbers indicate that either iPhone sales are slowing, or that owners of existing devices are not updating to iOS 9 as often as before, or both. The iPhone is prone to seasonality so sales typically taper off after the September and December quarters.
During its most recent earnings call, Apple said its active installed base has passed one billion total iPhone, iPad, Mac, iPod touch, Apple TV and Apple Watch devices.

With the release of iOS 9.3 in March and new products like the iPhone 5se and iPad Air 3 from Apple, it is likely that the iOS 9.3 adoption rate will increase in the next couple of months. Beside bug fixes and stability improvements, the upcoming version of iOS 9 will come with new features like Night Shift, Touch ID protection for Notes, and more. A new beta of this release was released by Apple to developers and beta testers earlier this week.
