Qualcomm has announced three new Snapdragon processors, 625, 435 and 425 SoCs that offers low to mid-tier performance in budget and mid-range smartphones. The Snapdragon 625 and 435 are octa-core SoCs, while the Snapdragon 425 is an quad-core chip. The mobile processors are said to offer higher performance, and longer battery life.
All three SoCs include support for LTE with carrier aggregation, WiFi 802.11ac with MU-MIMO, dual camera ISPs, Qualcomm Hexagon DSP (Digital Signal Processor) for audio and a sensor hub and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.
Snapdragon 625
The Snapdragon 625 is the first in the Snapdragon 6xx line to use 14nm FinFET technology. It feature eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores at 2GHz, Adreno 506 GPU and Open GL ES 3.1+. The SoC support eMMC 5.1 storage with SD 3.0, LPDDR3 933MHz memory, up to 24-megapixel camera with Dual Image Sensor Processor (ISP), up to 4K resolution video capture and playback with H.264 (AVC) and H.265 (HEVC) support and up to 1920 x 1200 duisplay at 60fps or 1080p. It supports USB 3.0, NFC and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity.
The system-on-chip (SoC) has an integrated X9 LTE modem with Global Mode LTE FDD, LTE TDD, WCDMA, (DC-HSPA+, DC-HSUPA, CDMA1x, EV-DO, TD-SCDMA and GSM/EDGE. It can handle Cat.7 speeds of up to 300mbps download speed, and upload speeds of up to 150mbsp, and up to 2 x 20MHz carrier aggregation.
Snapdragon 435
The Snapdragon 435 has eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 1.4GHz, Adreno 505 GPU, Open GL ES 3.1+ with support for LPDDR3 800MHz memory and eMMC 5.1 storage with SD 3.0 (UHS=1). The SoC supports up to 21-megapixel camera with Dual Image Sensor Processor (ISP), up to 1080p video capture and playback with H.264 (AVC) and H.265 (HEVC), and up to 1080p display at 60fps with 1080p output. It has an integrated X8 LTE modem with Global Mode and can handle LTE Cat.7 speeds of up to 300mbps download speed and up to 100mbps upload speed, with up to 2x20MHz carrier aggregation. It supports USB 2.0, NFC and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity.
Snapdragon 425
The Snapdragon 425 features four ARM Cortex-A53 core at up to 1.4GHz, Adreno 308 GPU, and open GL ES 3.0. It supports eMMC 5.1 storage, LPDDR3 667 MHz memory, up to 16MP camera with Dual Image Sensor Processor (ISP), up to 1080p video capture and playback with H.264 (AVC) and H.265 (HEVC) and up to 1280 x 800 display at 60fps or 720p output. The SoC has an X6 LTE modem with Global Mode and can handle Cat. 4 speeds of up to 150mbps download speed, 74mbps upload speeds and up to 2 x 20MHz carrier aggregation. Just like the SD-625, 435, the 425 supports USB 2.0, NFC and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity.
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 435, 430 and 625 are pin-compatible and software-compatible which makes them universal and are expected to power smartphones available in H2 2016.
