Whats App has announced that it will terminate support for BlackBerry, Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, Windows Phone 7.1 by the end of this year.
In a blog post, WhatsApp stated that the market covers 99% Android, iOS, Windows Phone 8 and later version devices. The company said that they have to give first priority to the mobile platforms that majority of people use. The company further stated that it will terminate support for WhatsApp on the selected mobile platforms (As Mentioned Above).
However Blackberry BB10 users are able to run Android Apps in their platform, so they don’t need to worry.
“While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future. This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp”.
Android is the main reason for the termination of support by WhatsApp. Last year, Google claimed that it had over 1.4 Billion Active Android Users, it is the main reason WhatsApp stated that they have to focus on the platform with majority of users. Also, the users who are using the said platforms are likely to suffer from this support termination. Leave your comments below and give your opinions about this move by WhatsApp.
