3 Powerful Online Dictionaries to Enhance Students Reading Comprehension

Most web browsers now come with integrated dictionaries which allow you to simply highlight a given term and right click on it to view its definition. However, when it comes to language learning and reading comprehension, students might need to have access to third party dictionaries that provide more details in terms of contextualization, antonomy, synonymy and more. 1- Google Dictionary

This an excellent dictionary designed by Google and is offered in the form of a free Chrome extension. Once installed, students can easily find definitions of words on any web page by simply double clicking. One great feature in this app is that it allows users to store a history of words they have searched so they can practice them later on.

2- The Free Dictionary

This is another robust online dictionary that provides a wide variety of features including : a thesaurus,  acronyms, abbreviations, idioms, encyclopedia, search engine and literature reference library.

3- Merriam Webster

This is both an online dictionary and a thesaurus. It also comes in with a set of powerful functionalities including : word pronunciation, word games, syntactical instructions, synonyms and many more.
