In response to multiple requests we received from our readers here in EdTech and mLearning we went ahead and curated this collection of some very good Android science apps to use with students in class. Unlike iTunes app Store, the options in Google Play are way more limited. So we only included what we think are ideal for high school students. The apps cover different themes including astronomy, biology, chemistry, and physics. We invite you to check them out and share with us if you have other titles we can add to this list. Enjoy
1- Complete Physics
This app helps students develop their physics learning skills. It features a wide range of educational tutorials covering different physics-centered topics. It also includes quizzes and exercises with solutions. It’s integrated dictionary will help students explain physics terms and find relevant definitions.
2- Khan Academy
The popular Khan Academy app for Android provides students with a wealth of knowledge and educational content on different topics including science, physics and math. It offers over 10,000 videos and tutorials students can watch at home and learn at their own pace. They can also use the search functionality to easily locate materials they want to work with. The offline functionality allows them to keep on learning even they have no Internet access.
3- Complete Chemistry
This is another app by the same provider of Complete Physics. Complete Chemistry provides students with materials and resources they need to learn and enhance their chemistry knowledge. These include tutorials, quizzes, formulas and dictionary and many more. There is also a section within the app students can use to take down notes.
4- Periodic Table
This period table of chemical elements features 118 elements, electro wheel diagram for each element, a solubility chart, molar mass calculator and many more. The pro version has few more features and does not run ads.
5- SkyView
‘SkyView Free is a beautiful and intuitive stargazing app that uses your camera to precisely spot and identify celestial objects in sky, day or night. Find popular constellations as they fade in and out while you scan across the sky, locate planets in our solar system, discover distant galaxies, and witness satellite fly-bys.’
6- Visual Anatomy
‘Visual Anatomy Free is an interactive reference, and education tool with audio pronunciation. Now it include a rotational organ 3D overview model!! It contains all body anatomy systems and has more than 500 feature points which can be interactively select. Each feature point has its own label and description. The app also has search function which can be used as searching the labels of all feature points. 8 overview images from Gray's anatomy. Full version has all 1247 images.’
7- Science Dictionary
“Science Dictionary connects users to portals that contain Science dictionaries online that can be referred to when one finds it difficult to comprehend complicated scientific terms. Children can refer to online science Dictionaries that are created suiting their needs. These dictionaries are handy and are very helpful. Users can download these dictionaries and use it as and when they have a requirement.”
8- 3D Brain
