Tech News: Adcom Set To Sue Freedom 251 Maker, Ringing Bells

 
Adcom has threatened to take legal action against the makers of world’s cheapest smartphone, Ringing Bells if in case it affects their brand name or the losses they suffer. Ringing Bells launched Freedom 251 smartphone which is quite similar to Adcom’s Ikon 4 which is available online at R.s 3,700 INR online.
Sanjeev Bhatia, Founder and Chairman of Adcom said “We are deeply grieved by this incident where our mobile phone has been presented to masses for Rs.251, and therefore, would not hesitate from taking any legal actions against the company, in case the entire fiasco impacts Adcom’s brand name or subsequently we face any other kind of losses,”.

He further said “Yes, it is true that although we sold the handsets to Ringing Bells earlier, like we sell Adcom mobiles to lakhs of users, we were absolutely unaware of the reselling plans of the company in question. Furthermore, we still haven’t been able to evaluate their pricing policy, as we sold the handsets at Rs 3,600 per unit,”.

Bhatia stated that Adcom is not linked to Ringing Bells or Freedom 251 and won’t be responsible for anything.

Indian Telecom Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad today said that it will take action against Ringing Bells if it fails to deliver R.s 251 smartphones.

Ringing Bells claimed that the company will accept cash only after delivery and the amount paid by 30,000 customers via Debit/Credit Card will get refund. The company said that it has refunded all amount that it generated by selling Freedom 251 Smartphones.

Ringing Bells is being questioned about the pricing of the smartphone. The company is also accused of fraud and non payments of dues. The Freedom 251 Smartphone has got over 7 Crore registrations despite of controversies.
