There is a new leak about iPad 2 that hints of powerful features coming to Apple's next-generation iPad. According to an October 13 report in iTech Post, the iPad Air 2 will be officially unveiled at a special event on 16 October, along with the iPad mini 3 and other products.
The new iPad Air 2 leak revolves around suspected photos of its internal components and apparently confirms previous iPad Air 2 leaks. Leaked by the Taiwanese site Apple Club, these new photos reveal the apparent logic board for iPad Air 2. This logic board photo indicates that Apple is including in the new iPad flagship an A8X processor, a major upgrade to the current iPad Air's A7 chip.
It appears that Apple will launch the new A8X processor to give the iPad Air 2 super powerful graphics features beyond what the new A8 chip in iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus can do. Although Apple has put "X" version chips in past iPads, last year it did not.
Reintroducing the "X" version of this chip is exciting because the A8X suggests sharper higher-resolution photos and video, perhaps the rumored Retina HD, are coming to the new iPad Air 2. Retina HD is rumored ever since iOS 8.1 Beta (an unreleased update to the current iOS 8) makes references to “3x-iPad” in its code.
Other photos in this leak appear to confirm previous rumors that Touch ID is coming to the Home button of the iPad Air 2, and with it probably Apple Pay. Earlier leaks also suggest that the iPad Air 2 may include a doubling of RAM to 2 GB and a thinner, lighter shell rumored to be just 7mm thin.
In all likelihood, the iPad Air 2 is also expected to sport higher-resolution cameras--both front and rear. While the current iPad Air has a 5MP iSight camera, the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus use iSight cameras that are 8MP. The new iPads are also expected to be available in gold-color besides silver and space gray.
As far as storage goes it is possible that Apple will drop the 32GB option for the iPad Air 2 in favor of a new 128GB option, the way it did for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. These iPad Air 2 leaks will be confirmed or dispelled on Thursday, at Apple's special event where the rumored iPad Pro, a 12.9-inch iPad may take the stage too.
