Crowfall, an MMO created with Voxel Farm Technology has been announced

Being an independent developer has plenty of challenges, and undergoing an MMO is a significant one. It will be interesting to see what comes of ArtCraft Entertainment's upcoming effort, Crowfall.

Here is the press release:

Independent game developer ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. announced the use of Voxel Farm technology platform in Crowfall, the highly-anticipated next-generation Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMORPG) with a focus on political alliances and feudal conquest.

“Our goal with Crowfall is to create an online experience where the World is a completely dynamic world,” explained Gordon Walton, co-founder and President of ArtCraft. “We want to create hundreds of unique worlds, with unique maps – mountains, hills, valleys, rivers, dungeons, ruins – for players to explore and destroy. The Voxel Farm technology gives us the power to do exactly that”.

Voxel technology has gained quite a bit of notoriety in recent years, in large part, thanks to the overwhelming success of Mojang’s Minecraft. By licensing the Voxel Farm technology, ArtCraft intends to take this technology in entirely new directions.
J. Todd Coleman, co-founder and creative director explains, “Most games are using voxel technology for creation – effectively, giving players a sandbox to build things. We’re using them for a very different reason; we are using Voxels for destruction. We’re creating sandcastles for the players to kick over.”

"We are thrilled to see our tech used in Crowfall," said Miguel Cepero, CEO of of Voxel Farm. "The scope and detail of this project is mind blowing. It is a perfect example of what we believe next-gen games will be like."

Founded by two of the most experienced executives in the history of online gaming, ArtCraft Entertainment is the combined effort of J. Todd Coleman (director, Shadowbane, Wizard101, Pirate101) and Gordon Walton (executive producer, Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars: the Old Republic). The stated goal of ArtCraft Entertainment is to “push the design of Massively Multiplayer Online games in bold new directions.“

Additionally:

Independent game developer, ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. today launched a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund its highly-anticipated Massively Multiplayer Online game, Crowfall™. Described as a blend of a roleplaying game and a large-scale strategy game, Crowfall is the brainchild of two of the most experienced MMO developers in the world:  J. Todd Coleman (creative director, Shadowbane, Wizard101, Pirate101) and Gordon Walton (executive producer, Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars: The Old Republic).

“Crowdfunding has revolutionized the game market, allowing developers access to funds and customers,” said ArtCraft co-founder and President Gordon Walton. “The traditional publishing model works for mass-market gaming, but fails to serve many of the more experienced and discriminating gamers.  Crowdfunding allows us to serve these customers directly with experiences crafted specifically for them, using their direct feedback and funding.”

Crowfall is a designed to push the boundaries of online social dynamics. “In some ways, it sounds revolutionary – but our goal is to rediscover what we lost.” explained J. Todd Coleman, co-founder and Creative Director. “Politics, Trade, Empires, Alliances, Betrayal – the ability for players to have a real impact on the game world.  In the rush to make these games appeal to the mass market, we lost the elements that made them great.”

Fans of the game can back the kickstarter campaign at: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crowfall/crowfall-throne-war-pc-mmo. Backers have a chance to fund the project via multiple levels of giving, are of which are documented on the Kickstarter page.  Depending on the backer levels, fans who contribute to Crowfall on Kickstarter can be involved in the games pre-release testing, purchase the game at a discount, and secure castles and fortifications for their personal kingdoms.

“With crowdfunding, we can finally build this game – the game that we have all been waiting for – without having to compromise our vision.  With the support of our fans, this team can make Crowfall a reality.
