What Apple Announced at WWDC 2015! Keynotes of the Event


Apple's WWDC 2015 (Developers Conference) was this morning, with the Keynote from CEO Tim Cook and crew kicking off the event.

Here are my notes of what was announced during the Keynote presentation. For more detailed information check out Apple.com.

The event will be about; OS X, iOS, watchOS, and Music.

------ OS X:

- 55% of active Mac users are using Yosemite.

- New versions name: OS X El Capitan

- Spotlight updates. Built-in apps updates.

- New gestures (in Mail for example).

- Pin-sites in Safari. New Mute function in address bar.

- Updates to Spotlight search.

- Mission Control organization neater.

- Tabs in Mail. Drag and drop images. Minimize function.

- Split view for apps.

- Updates to Notes app.

--- Performance ---

- Speed performances. (e.g.: 2x app switching, open PDF's 4x faster).

- Performance improvements for Metal. (eg: 10x draw call performance, 40% greater rendering efficiency).  


- OS X El Capitan available to developers today.

- Free upgrade this FALL. Public beta in July.



-------- iOS:

- 83% of users are using the latest iOS 8.


- Siri; New UI. Intelligence upgrade.

- Proactive suggestions.

- "Siri Suggestions" by swiping right on home screen. Also new search and other suggestions, like Apps and News.

- New API for Search.


- Apple Pay; Coming to UK in July.

- You can add store, debt and credit cards to Apple Pay.


- Passbook is now named "Wallet".


- Notes has new toolbar with formatting options.

- Drawing tools in Notes.

- Make check lists in Notes.

- Add photos directly into Notes.


- Maps; Public transit. Station info with departure times. Transit coming to certain cities in USA and China.


- New iOS app; News. "Personalized for you".

- Animated graphics.

- Bookmark articles to read later.

- Add topics to follow.

- News app rolling out starting with United States, UK and Australia.


---- iPad.

- Suggestion Bar on Keyboard now has other tools like cut, copy, paste, formate, add images, ect...

- Two fingers on keyboard turns it into a trackpad.

- New app switching with full screen previews.

- Multitasking; "Slide Over", new feature. "Spit view" two windows side-by-side and both active.

- Picture-in-Picture for watching video and using other apps.


--- Battery Life:

- iOS 9 new low-power mode. 3+ hours.

- Two-factor authentication for iCloud.

- Over-the-air updates only need 1.3GB of free space.


HeathKit; Additional health metrics.


- HomeKit; New sensors like thermostat and home security, etc...

- Updates to CarPlay.


- Swift 2; many additions.


- iOS 9 Developer Beta begins today. And you can sign up for a Public Beta in July.

- iOS 9 will be available on all devices that support iOS 8.



---- watchOS 2 (Apple Watch):

- Native apps are coming for Apple Watch with a new version of watchOS.

- New watch faces. Includes Photo or 'Photos Album Face'.

- App developers can make own watch Complications.

- Time Travel; rotate Digital Crown backwards or forwards to view info coming up later in the day.

- Nightstand mode. Alarm clock.

- Add more than 12 friends.

- Draw with more than one color.

- Reply to email (with voice).

- FaceTime audio on Watch.

- Use Siri to start a workout.

- Supports Transit.

- Supports new Apple Pay cards.

- Open Glances with Siri.

- Native app support.


Developers new tools to access;

- Microphone.

- Play audio.

- Play video.

- Access to HealthKit.

- HomeKit.

- Accelerometer.

- Taptic engine.

- Digital crown.

-- New features for developers available today. Coming in the Fall for everyone else.



One more thing...



---- Apple Music

- 24/7 live global radio. (Beats 1)

- "For You" recommendations.

- "Up Next" queue.

- Artist-to-fans social service called 'Connect'. Artists can publish content.

- New mini-player in Music app, stays at bottom of app.

- Music videos.

- Top Charts.

- Play songs by asking Siri to play a certain song title, or something like, "Play the top ten songs in Alternative".

- Launching in over 100 countries later this month. June 30th.

- Need iOS 8.4. New iTunes update.

- First three months free. $9.99 per month or $14.99 for up to six family members.
