‘iPad Pro’ now rumored for September 9 event with iPad mini 4; pre-orders in October, November ship date

Contrary to prior rumors, 9to5Mac is reporting that Apple’s long-expected oversized ‘iPad Pro’ will be formally announced at the iPhone 6s press event after all. The event’s been confirmed to take place a week from today, on next Wednesday, September 9, at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.

The report states that Apple will be unveiling two new iPads at the event, and that is the iPad Pro and the iPad mini 4. According to “trusted sources,” Apple chose the Bill Graham auditorium, with its massive available seating (7,000 seats), to better reflect the scope of the event itself, because Apple has plans to announce a lot of different products.

However, the report also indicates that while Apple is currently planning on showcasing the iPad Pro (and iPad mini 4) at the event on September 9, that could change. If that happens, the report states that Apple will hold the event at the beginning of October, which would mean pre-orders for the large tablet would begin in the same month of the announcement, and shipping would begin sometime in November.

Interestingly enough, the iPad Air 3 is currently in the works, but that due to its release scheduled for 2016, it won’t be one of the new iPads unveiled on stage on September 9.

The massive 7000-seat Bill Graham building was chosen due to the event’s scope, said to include an “unprecedented” blitz of product introductions. New Macs are “unlikely” to appear next week.

Several sketchy reports based on unproven sources have said that the iPad Air 3 may not be announced this year due to engineering issues and production bottlenecks, but their veracity couldn’t be determined.
