Why downloading speed 100KB/s is same as 1Mbps
People gets confused after buying a broadband Or internet connection of 1Mbps data speed but they actually gets the speed about 100-125Kbps. And the fact is that the people those who have 1Mbps internet connection, gets the speed about 100-125kbps, they even don't think about the reason. It may the reason that they know. But those who don't know they can understand here:What's the reason behind this tricky downloading speed?
Before going for the reason let us know about the basics of data transmission speed. The digital data are transferred in Bit, Byte's and their supersets( KiloBytes, MegaBytes).
A bit is a smallest single data which has values either '1' Or '0'. Byte is a collection of 8 bits i.e (1 Byte =8 Bits). You can see the conversion given below. Please note the difference between Capital & Small letters of the data value.
- 1 bit= 1 or 0 (b)
- 4 bits= 1 nybble
- 8 bits= 1 byte (B)
- 1024 bytes= 1 Kilobyte (KB)
- 1024 Kilobytes= 1 Megabytes (MB)
- 1024 Megabytes= 1 Gigabytes
- 1024 Gigabytes= 1 Terabytes
- Mbps = Megabits per second
- MBps = Megabytes per second
Whereas people calculate their internet speed without knowing the difference between the Bytes & bit's. Usually Internet speed is denoted in Mbps only.
Here you can understand more accurately,
Downloading speed 1Mbps is MegaBits/sec that is 1000kilobits/sec which is equal to 125kilobytes/second.
Where as downloading speed 1MBps is MegaBytes/sec that is 1024Kilobytes/sec which is equal to 1megabytes/sec Or people usually say 1MBps speed as a 10Mbps.
Hence for a denoted speed of 1Mbps, 125KBps is the absolute maximum speed that you can get. It may varry depending upon the network and connections.
