Will the iPhone 7 actually waterproof? A new patent has surfaced that suggests this conclusion. Therein Apple describes a method to protect the connectors with special seals against moisture.
Already the current flagship iPhone 6s is amazing waterproof, for the iPhone 7 the official support of features is expected. A new patent supports this conjecture now, reports Business Insider. Apple has therefore filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and in this document describes a method that could make the next Apple smartphone finally resistant to water.
Connections are to be covered by plastic elastomer
To function this by using Self-Healing, ie a kind of self-healing, as it is already used in the LG G Flex 2 for the back. The patent is worded in general terms and only speaks of electronic devices with a hidden terminal. USB ports or audio connectors could thus be covered by a deformable plastic such as elastomer, which would heal itself. The material is designed to protect against water and prevent it from entering the unit.
Supposed to work quite simple: If the terminal is to be used, the cable must be easily inserted through the elastomer. Once the cable is removed again, the plastic used is deformed due to self-healing back into its original shape. But whether the iPhone to Release 7 is really waterproof, remains to be seen.
iPhone 6s shows in teardown amazing waterproof
Apple secures countless patents - and only a fraction of these will be turned into reality. Hope is but still: recently unveiled a teardown of the iPhone 6s that Apple has installed seals in its current top model, which protect the terminals of the smartphone before water - not advertised this feature from the US companies, however. With the iPhone 7 that could change.
