Important win in Spain for the Kangoo ZE

Last Minute Win for the Outlander PHEV

Some 350 units were registered last month, with sales up 23% YoY and the EV Share rising slightly to 0,29%, a record high, a positive result that this time isn't due to fleet deals, but to a new incentives package that has just begun.

Looking to annual figures, the 3.015 units sold this year represent a 54% increase over the 2014 result, which itself was a 53% increase over 2013.

In December, the big news were the last minute leadership change, with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV removing the Smart Fortwo ED by just one(!) unit. This is like FC Barcelona winning La Liga to Real Madrid in the last minute of the last Round.

There were other significant changes, the Renault Kangoo ZE jumped two positions to #5, with the added bonus of surpassing the Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia twins in the race for Best-Selling LCV. Continuing with the football analogy, this would be like Deportivo La Coruña reaching the UEFA League in the last Round, at home of the direct competitor Espanyol Barcelona.

Looking at the manufacturers ranking, the chronic leader Renault won the race, with 25% Share, earning its fourth consecutive Manufacturers award, while Nissan was Second, with 20% share, followed by Mitsubishi (13%), in the last place of the Podium.

Below, you will find the 2015 Trophy Room:

Best Selling PHEV & SUV: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, 389 units. Also last year winner in these two categories, the japanese SUV this year managed to win also the Best Selling Model trophy, a first for a PHEV;

Best Selling BEV & Small Car: Smart Fortwo ED, 388 units. Smart only won this because of the Car2Go fleet deal, if it wasn't for that, the Nissan Leaf would have renewed the Best Selling Pure Electric trophy, ditto for the Renault Zoe in the Small Car category;

Best Selling Van: Renault Kangoo ZE, 267 units. After another thrilling race with the Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia twins, the veteran french LCV managed to recover in 2015 the title lost last year to Nissan, with a record 267 sales and the best position (#5) in the ranking since 2012;

Rookie Of The Year: Audi A3 e-Tron, 102 units. Audi's plug-in managed to win this contest, profiting from the weaker performance of the VW Golf GTE (79 units) in this market, thus succeeding the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV in this category.

Looking at the BEV / PHEV share, PHEV's gained significant ground, growing from 15% in 2014, to 25% now.

In 2016 the Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe will try to remove the Outlander PHEV from the leadership, while Tesla will surely do much better than the 10 units registered this year. As for sales predictions, continuing with the 50% growth rate of the last couple of years, i would say some 4.500 units will be sold here.
