Apple seeds iOS 9.3 public beta 3 with Night Shift, secure Notes, and more

Two days after seeding iOS 9 beta 3 and OS X 10.11.4 beta 3 to developers, Apple has made the updates available to public testers. Folks who are registered in the company’s Beta Software Program can now install the new firmware on their various devices.

As far as new features go, the inclusion of Night Shift mode is one of the biggest, which also includes a toggle within Control Center. Night Shift makes use of the iOS device’s clock and geolocation to automatically shift the colors in the display to warmer end of the spectrum to reduce exposure to bright blue light in the event, to make it easier on your eyes.

iOS 9.3 also includes the ability to password and Touch ID protect Notes, revamped News app, new 3D Touch Quick Actions for stock apps like Weather, Settings, Compass, Health, App Store, and iTunes Store, ability to duplicate the Live Photo as a still image, improvements to the Health app, Apple Music support in CarPlay and new Classroom app, which gives includes the ability to manage multiple Apple ID logins for iOS devices, allowing multiple students to utilize the same device with individualized profiles.

As for OS X 10.11.4, most of its changes are under-the-hood. The update does include support for Live Photos and Notes passwords, but other than that there aren’t many user-facing additions—although beta 3 does fix a high-profile issue with Twitter links.
