Song samples TLC's "Creep"
Rising pop star Zendaya is working on the follow-up to her self-titled debut album, and her new single, "Something New" featuring Chris Brown, seems an apt title for the Disney Channel's "K.C. Undercover" star, which she also co-produces.
Zendaya has been a favorite amidst the tween set as a Disney star and in "Something New" she expands her horizons into more adult themes on the R&B-tipped tune. "I don't know your name / but I guess I really don't care / I probably should wait, but I wanna let you go there," she croons over a sample of TLC's "Creep." "I wanna try something new / all night."
The late-night come-ons continue when Chris Brown's feature kicks in. "Hey what you doing tonight? I see that look in your eyes / I feel the same," he sings, playing on the TLC classic's lyrics. "Miss your lips when we kiss / Why don't we handle this/ Girl, you know I need some affection."
The no-strings-attached theme is sealed on the Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds and Khris Riddick-Tynes-produced track with Zendaya's line, "This ain't forever, just for tonight."
Zendaya recently covered "Neverland," which is featured in the compilation Finding Neverland: The Album. Her forthcoming sophomore album made Rolling Stone's "20 Most Anticipated Pop Albums of 2016."
