Waste To Energy (WTE) Waste Management Technology In Malaysia

Here's a follow up posting to my initial post on how Waste Segregation & Management starts from home. Segregation is an integral part to help ease the good folks from our garbage collection system in the handling process. But do you know where does the waste end up at? How is it ultimately disposed of? Read on below then.

So how was it done before this? Well, traditionally it's a huge mess, where the garbage would be  transported to waste disposal sites which may exude smelly methane gases that pollutes the environment. This is really bad, and in recent times our country has been facing the issue of landfill shortages. This calls for a new modern way to deal with all these!

It's good to know then that a couple of years back, Malaysia has ventured into a new modern waste treatment technology and built these Waste to Energy (WTE) power plants where it generates electricity and energy directly through the burning of solid wastes. How's that for being innovative? We are not the first to use these technology though, as more advanced countries have been doing it for a while already.

With WTE tech, the amount of final wastes transported to the disposal site is reduced by up to 85%! It's a proven technology, one which I do wish to have a chance to see it for myself in Malaysia (no, I haven't been able to see it yet).

From what I gathered, currently Malaysia has got a few WTE Gasification Power Plant, and more will soon be built at Taman Beringin, Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Payung, Johor and Sungai Udang, Melaka.

Doing our part as responsible citizens, do practise the 3R (Reuse, Reduce and Recycle) whenever possible. This was we can help in reducing the waste generation. To know more about Waste To Energy (WTE) Waste Management Technology In Malaysia do check out the website wte.kpkt.gov.my
