Xiaomi today finally launched the Redmi Note 3 in India at a starting price of Rs. 9,999, along with the Mi Bluetooth Speaker (Rs. 1,999). However, at the launch event, Hugo Barra, Vice President of Xiaomi Global made a surprise announcement.
Barra said that the recently launched Xiaomi flagship, the Mi 5 will be "coming to India in a month". He added saying that the team in India is trying to get the Mi 5 here "in a month" without revealing an exact date.
If Xiaomi launches the Mi 5 in India by April, the country will become one of the first markets to sell the flagship outside China. Barra also said that Xiaomi, has received a massive 1.6 crore registrations for Mi 5, which went on sale in China on Monday, February 29.
Barra had previously confirmed that the Mi 5 will be launched in core markets outside China including India, Malaysia, Brazil, Indonesia and Philippines, and even plans to expand to more markets.
As an added bonus, Xiaomi also plans to bring the 20000mAh Mi power bank to the country soon.
Coming back to the Mi 5, the device comes with 5.15-inch 1080p curved class display encased into a 3D glass body, Snapdragon 820 SoC, 3GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, 16MP rear & 4MP front facing camera, 4G LTE, NFC, USB Type-C port, 3000mAh battery, and runs MIUI 7 based on Android Marshamllow. There's also a Pro variant that comes with 4GB RAM, 128GB storage. The base model is priced at CNY 1999 (Rs. 21,000) while the Pro model costs CNY 2699 (Rs. 28,000).
