Besides a rich and widely varied educational content, the apps provide access to tutorials, guides, lessons and video explanations to help students understand key concepts in physics. Some of these apps also feature games, quizzes and interactive simulations. Check them out and share with us if you have other suggestions to add to this list.
1- Electrons
‘Electrons is a charged particle simulator for iPad. It allows you to create dozens of positively or negatively charged particles, either freely roaming in space, or contained within conducting bodies. You can observe complex particle interactions and resulting electric forces, create capacitors, simulate a lightning rod, a cathode ray tube (CRT) and much, much more. Through play, you can effortlessly gain deeper understanding of many natural phenomena. Following the included guided tour of 10 experiments will give you further insights into the world of electricity.’
2- High School Physics
‘The app’s learning tools cover the basics in areas from electricity and magnetism, to motion, mechanics, and thermodynamics, to name just a few. Unlike some other scientific fields, physics can require a lot of math, and the Varsity Tutors High School Physics app for iPhone and iPad accounts for this by providing detailed explanations on formulas for calculating any physics problem.’
3- Formulary: Physics Free
‘"Formulary:Physics" is an awarded interactive collection of formulas available completely offline on your iPhone or iPod Touch. It includes all important formulas you need from elementary school to your basic studies from the scientific-sections: echanics; Gravitation and Electricity…In addition "Formulary:Physics contains dozens of constants you will need in you calculations, all on your iPhone. The formulas are drilled down in different sub-sections and are all put on handmade foils also including useful SI-Units, background informations and interesting graphics.’
4- Physics X
‘Physics X is the most effective study tool for AP and intro college physics. It integrates free response questions, concise videos, quizzes, formula sheets, scratch pad and references to make the study process efficient, easy and mobile.’
5- iLearnPhysics
‘This app helps you to understand Physics easily and fast with core concept tutorials, formulas calculator and quizzes. The app features a comprehensive list of formulas for the topics listed bellow, each with a smart formula calculator that allows you to solve any variable within the formula. Use the in-app purchase to upgrade to the Pro version for access the additional contents (11 tutorials). In the free version you can access only 4 tutorials.’
