Slack is an excellent realtime messaging and collaboration tool. You can use it to organize all your team communication in one single place. Slack allows you to create channels where you can communicate and collaborate with your colleagues. For instance, you can create a channel for a topic you are researching or for a project you are working on . After inviting your collaborators, you will be able to hold synchronous discussions, share materials and resources and view what everybody else is doing. Channels can be public or private. In private channels only designated members can join and see what’s going on in the channel. And instead of sending emails, you can use Slack's direct messaging feature to reach a colleague directly and privately.
Channels are not only about messaging, you can also use them to upload files, PDFs, documents, images, and spreadsheets. You can simply drag and drop them right into your channel and all members will be able to access, view and add comments. If you have files on cloud storage services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or Box, you can share them in your channel by pasting their links within your channel. Everything you share on Slack is archived and searchable. You can even search content within uploaded files. Another great feature from Slack is that it lets you connect all the apps and tools you use to your Slack account and ‘avoid all that constant switching between apps. Set up your integration so that you get all your notifications directly within Slack—from support requests, code check-ins, and error logs to sales leads—all of them searchable in one central archive.’
Slack is available across different platforms and devices. You can start working on a Slack channel on your computer and resume your work on iPad or an Android operated device. Everything is synced and reflected everywhere. Watch the video below to learn more about Slack.
