Chequers @ TTDI Taman Tun Dr Ismail

Now I've heard a lot of nice things about Chequers @ TTDI Taman Tun Dr Ismail, where they serve some really nice savoury and sweet handmade waffles. The waffles are made using premium local and seasonal ingredients, and looks as yummy as they taste. I had the opportunity to try out their fares this afternoon, and it was good. Check out what we had this afternoon below.

Chequers serve delectable waffles, not just the sweet version, but savoury and filling ones as well. Available throughout the day, you can order your waffles for breakfast, lunch, tea time, and even dinner. The interior is rather cozy, with nice artistic black and white themed decor, with free wifi and all.

A rather large waffle dish, Down Home Benny was brought out, introduced to be Chequers' signature waffle dish. I don't get the chance to try out savory waffles, so I was pretty intrigued by the ingredients used and taste. Packed with beef bacon, two lovely poached eggs, guacamole and watercress salad, the waffle is drizzled in hollandaise sauce. Love how all these ingredients seem to come together to give out a savoury, sweet flavour and taste.

Double Deck Croque Monsieur, a double layered waffle offering, is yet another savoury waffle. I was informed by the owner that at Chequers they serve two types of waffles, the savoury ones and the sweet ones. This dish was served with turkey ham between the layers, tomatoes wrapped with egg, with a lovely looking sunny side up egg on top. Cheese sauce is drizzled by the side, for that added flavour.

You know you're in for a treat when a dish named Moo Moo comes out. True to its name, this savoury waffle burger dish contains seasoned striploin beef patty which tasted really good. Minced, yet not too mushy, we get to enjoy the patty while munching on a variety of ingredients from beef bacon, cheddar cheese, raisin slaw and pickled relish, all drizzled in their homemade berry barbeque sauce. Oh, the accompanied side waffle fries are really good too!

Mushroom lovers will love the Shroom Fiesta, a spinach waffle with grilled portobello mushrooms, glazed cherry tomatoes, balsamic reduction, rocket salad and shaved parmesan. This is yet another savoury waffle offering by Chequers, but it did taste okay to me. This is probably due to my tastebuds not being accustomed to a mix of waffle and mushrooms.  The portobello mushroom did the trick to tickle my tastebuds, as it was seasoned well.

I'm a meat person, hence it caught my eye when I glanced at Chequers' menu this really nice looking Crusted Lamb Rack picture. Needless to say, we ordered it, and it did not disappoint. Pan seared to perfection, the lamb rack had these very nice crust, served with mashed herb potatoes, roasted baby carrots, with lots of honey grain mustard sauce at the side. Love how tender the lamb rack turned out, albeit they had to do it medium rather than well to preserve the juiciness.

Ah, finally we got to our last two dessert dish, the first being the rather nicely named waffle, Melting Moments. Made up of chocolate chip waffles, vanilla ice cream with lots of caramel and chocolate sauce, what got me hooked onto this dessert had to be the hand battered banana fritters buried inside. It's so sweet and went perfectly well with the ice cream and waffle. I could not get enough of this dessert dish.

Recently it has been a 'coconut' world, with coconut confectionary, desserts and ice creams being created everywhere. At Chequers we got to savour their Tropic Coconut dessert, made from coconut waffles served with fresh coconut flesh, roasted almonds, and coconut ice cream. Fragrant pandan sauce is used, which blends everything else together very well. A refreshing end to our meal at Chequers. 

Do check Chequers the next time you are at TTDI Taman Tun Dr Ismail, especially if you have a sudden craving for really good waffles.
